U.S. Olympian Jessica Hardy Checks in Safe After Las Vegas Shooting

2012 U.S. Olympian Jessica Hardy (Meichtry) has Tweeted that she is safe after Sunday night’s Las Vegas shooting that has left at least 50 dead and 406 injured as of the latest figured released by local officials. Many of the injuries were sustained in the subsequent stampede after shots rang out that have been described as sounding like “fireworks.” The shooting took place during a Jason Aldean concert at the Route 91 Harvest Festival that Hardy was attending earlier in the weekend. Hardy Tweeted that she sold her wristband for Sunday night and is safe.

The suspect in the case, 64-year old Stephen Paddock, shot into the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel on Las Vegas’ strip. Police say they found at least 8 weapons in his hotel room. Paddock was eventually killed.

Hardy represented the United States at the 2012 Olympic Games where she won gold as a prelims swimmer in the women’s 400 medley relay and bronze as a finals swimmer in the women’s 400 free relay. Throughout her career, Hardy held World Records in the 100 meter breaststroke in long course and the 50 meter breaststroke in both short course and long course – with almost 16-and-a-half years of holding World Records from the three events combined.

Hardy and her husband Dominik Meichtry, who was also an Olympic swimmer representing Switzerland, are expecting their first child together – a girl due in Spring 2018.

A little pineapple drink is OK when pregnant.

Sandy Hook marked the end of the U.S. Gun control debate, once America decided killing children was bearable it was over- Dan Hodges

Give people time to digest what happened or goto the huffpo with gun control if you need to bring it up now.

Does talking about gun control make you t,t, triggered?

PerpetualAutumn

Just off topic. Not the place to have an in depth conversation about it.

This article talks about the Las Vegas shooting so not really

Justin Thompson

The gun control debate didn’t end with Sandy Hook so your first comment wasn’t 100% factually incorrect. I guess facts aren’t as easy for you as getting a full ride or having success with the ladies. BTW, post your new so we can look up this so called legend at the U of A.

I just quoted someone it’s not my opinion, is getting a 4.0 in high school hard?

Justin Thompson

Why would you quote someone if you didn’t share their opinion on this topic? Do you randomly quote people?

On the 4.0 maybe it’s just not in the cards for you, but you’ll always have that full ride and the ladies that no one can quantify while you hide your identity 🤣🤣🤣

Cause I want to get likes by anonymous people. You seem like an angry person. And you really missed the point of the quote. Continue to be so angry over small stuff

And I got a full ride cause I got a 4.0 combined with extra curriculars

First of all my condolences to the familes of thoae that died.

The gun control debate is complex. I thought people carry guns all over the US or don’t people conceal carry?

If people carry guns all over on the US then how did fifty people and up dead. 50 seems really high. I mean someone would have shot him before he has a chance to cause that much damage. Maybe people don’t carry much in lad Vegas.

I have no problem against gun control though. yes ban assault rifles but we,’ll first have to define what an assault rifle is which is quite a debate.

No one shot the shooter because he was acting as a sniper from a 32nd floor hotel room. No one could pinpoint from where the shots were coming. He also had what was likely some sort of automatic weapon which made it easier to hit a high number of people in a short period of time.

Like dmswim said, he was shooting from a hotel room high up. I also thought it might be helpful to point out something I read earlier. A lot of these people were coming from the music festival, where they wouldn’t be allowed to have their guns. So that would also explain why no one had tried to use a gun in defense. I do think it’s mostly because he was high up and no one knew where he was shooting from, though. (disclaimer: this comment in no way reflects my opinion on the gun control debate in case someone interprets it that way. Just sharing something that I read earlier).

The shooting at the southern church last week was stopped by an usher who ran to his car & returned to disable the shooter . There is that .
From my minimal reading of the situation this looks to be a politically motivated shooting eg the shooting of Deputy Speaker Scalise & Congress staffers in a DC park playi g baseball .aka attempted assassination . Also the weapons appear to be illegal .

Also it could happen anywhere.

Further reading maybe the weapons were not illegal but a wealthy person could access expensive improvisations . Ma y have commented it seems too much for one untrained person but hey – Im still amazed at Lee Harvey Oswald being sniper good.
