Liv Hettinger, two-time North Dakota state champion in the 100 backstroke, has verbally committed to swim at Florida Gulf Coast University beginning in the fall of 2022.

Hettinger, a rising senior at West Fargo High School, specializes in freestyle and backstroke. She won the 2019 and 2020 100 backstroke at North Dakota state championships, and she also placed third in the 50 freestyle at the 2020 state championships. She has Futures cuts in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Her best short course times are:
- 50 freestyle: 23.56
- 100 freestyle: 53.64
- 100 backstroke: 56.75
- 200 freestyle: 1:56.36
- 200 backstroke: 2:05.75
Hettinger swims club for the West Fargo Flyers. At the 2021 North Dakota Long Course Championship, she placed second in the 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter breaststroke, and 200-meter backstroke; and third in the 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter freestyle, and 400-meter individual medley.
Florida Gulf Coast University is a member of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. At the 2021 women’s CCSA championship, the school tied Liberty University for the conference title, marking its tenth conference title in program history. At that meet and with her best times, Hettinger would’ve edged in eighth in the 50 freestyle and ninth in the 100 backstroke.
Hettinger joins Annabelle Thompson and butterfly specialist Cameron Kuriger as members of FGCU’s class of 2026.
