Men
The Towson University men’s swimming and diving program earned a dual meet win over Georgetown University, 171-126 in its home opener on Saturday.
The Tigers opened the meet, held at Burdick Pool, with morning diving before competing in swimming events in the afternoon. Towson won 12 of the 16 events and posted 24 top three finishes against the Hoyas.
How it Happened
- Jake Casey was the Tigers’ lone diver, competing on the one- and three-meter boards. He finished fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 168.30. On the three-meter boards, he also placed fourth with a career-high score of 177.82.
- Towson opened the swimming portion of the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Zach Bishop, Ryan O’Leary, Jack Saunderson and Nick Essing combined for a time of 3:25.57. The Towson ‘B’ (Owen Robinson, Stefan Keller, Noah Pritchard, Hunter Wright) relay placed third, timing 3:31.31.
- The Tigers swept the 1000-yard freestyle, led by Will Dougherty in a personal-best 9:35.32. Andrew Snyder followed in 10:03.84 and Tommy Whitman placed third (10:09.65).
- Wright was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.12.
- In the 100-yard backstroke, Saunderson won in 51.98, smashing his previous best of 55.02. Robinson took third with a personal-best 53.68.
- O’Leary won the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal-best time of 58.28. S. Keller came in third-place, timing 1:00.07.
- Towson recorded the top two finishes in the 200-yard butterfly. Pritchard won the event in 1:53.99 andMatt Sieffert followed in 1:57.23.
- N. Essing timed 21.72 in the 50-yard freestyle for an event victory. He also won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.15. His brother, Matt Essing, placed third with a time of 48.98 in that event.
- The Tigers had swimmers finished second through fifth in the 200-yard backstroke. Zach Bishop was the runner-up (1:55.93) followed by Pritchard (1:57.09).
- S. Keller won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.07 and O’Leary followed in second-place with a personal-best time of 2:09.09.
- Towson swept the 500-yard freestyle, led by Dougherty who timed 4:39.27. He was followed by Evan Brophy in second-place (4:46.49) and Aaron Magazine in third-place (4:47.43).
- Saunderson won the 100-yard butterfly with a personal-best time of 48.29. He was over three seconds faster than Georgetown’s second-place finisher.
- S. Keller won the final individual event of the day, the 400-yard individual medley, with a time of 4:07.56.
- Towson’s 200-yard freestyle relay rounded out the meet with a win. Saunderson, Bishop, N. Essing, Wright combined for a time of 1:27.30.
Women:
The Towson University women’s swimming and diving program earned a close 158-142 win over Georgetown University in its home opener on Saturday.
The Tigers opened the meet with morning diving before competing in swimming events in the afternoon. Towson won seven events and had 29 top three finishes against the Hoyas.
How it Happened
- The Tiger trio of Emily Wilson, Kelsey Jehl and Victoria Zozzaro competed on the one- and three-meter boards. Wilson won the one-meter event with 261.82 points. She was followed by Jehl in second (261.45) and Zozzaro in third with a career-high 246.30 points.
- Wilson also won on the three-meter boards with a career-high 265.20 points. Zozzaro took third with 244.42 points, a career-high.
- Towson opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay. Jacy Icard, Amanda Rosa, Maddi Mangum and Melissa Toy combined for a time of 3:55.23. Towson’s ‘B’ relay team (Olivia Evans, Jackie Schoening, Tara Goss, Megan Cowan) finished third, timing 3:59.56.
- Ashley Illenye was the runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:20.45. Danielle Clarkfollowed in third-place with a personal-best of 10:35.77.
- Melissa Toy came in second-place in the 200-yard freestyle, timing 1:57.16.
- Evans took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.39. She was followed by Magnum in third-place (1:00.88).
- In the 100-yard breaststroke, Rosa was the runner-up with a time of 1:07.04. Kayln Fetter finished third (1:07.59).
- Illenye won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.45 for the Tigers.
- Caitlin Manthe was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (24.42) followed by Icard in third (24.80).
- Manthe won the 100-yard freestyle event in 53.35 and Annemarie Schnoor placed third (53.84).
- Icard earned a victory in the 200-yard backstroke, timing a personal-best 2:06.01. Evans finished third in 2:10.08.
- Fetter timed a personal-best 2:28.23 in the 200-yard breaststroke for a second-place finish. Rosa followed in third-place (2:28.81).
- Illenye was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle, timing 5: 05.61. Clark took third in 5:11.10.
- Goss placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 59.32.
- Tasha Reidenbach won the final individual event of the day, the 400-yard individual medley, in 4:38.51. Meghan Jones placed third with a time of 4:43.78.
- Towson was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Icard, Schnoor, Toy and Manthe combined for a time of 1:37.75.
Behind the Numbers
- Towson’s swimmers recorded 10 personal-bests.
- Towson won seven events and had 29 top three finishes against the Hoyas.
- The meet was the 15th meeting between the Tiger women and Hoyas. Towson has now won 11 of those dual meets.
- Towson extended its home meet win-streak to 20 dual meets. The Tiger women have not lost at home since the 2012 season.

The Georgetown University swimming & diving teams both fell in a dual meet at Towson University on Saturday afternoon at the Tigers’ Burdick Pool. The men fell, 171-126, while the Hoya lost, 158-142.
Men
Henry Hollinshead (Raleigh, N.C./Green Hope) took home Georgetown’s lone win of the meet, winning the 200-yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 1:53.25. He also took more than a second off of his personal best in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 52.43 to place second by less than a half second.
Daniel Ross (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall just .36 seconds out of first with a time of 1:45.48. He surpassed his previous season-best time by more than a second. He also placed second in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:14.04. Evan Grey (Williston, Vt./Champlain Valley Union) and Samuel Delise (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) took third and fourth with times of 4:14.36 and 4:21.34, respectively.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Georgetown trio of Will Leach (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central), Seth Maslowski (Cary, N.C./Green Hope) and Emmanuel Emovon (Mt. Pleasant, S.C./Wando) finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Leach touched the wall in 22.00 seconds, just .28 out of first, while Maslowski and Emovon were just two-hundredths of a second apart from each other.
Leach also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.66.
Martin Vanin (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Bolivar), Emovon and Justin Summers (Weston, Conn./Weston) took second, third and fourth, respectively in the 100-yard butterfly. Vanin took nearly a second off of his season-best time, touching the wall in 51.69 seconds.
Ryan Blom (Hershey, Pa./Milton Hershey), Jared Cooper-Vespa (Orange, Conn./The Hopkins School) and Griffin Edmonds (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) swept the top three spots in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Blom won the 1-meter with 273 points while Cooper-Vespa finished first in the 3-meter with 297.90 points.
Women
Cristina Barrett (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) continued the hot start to her collegiate career. For the third time in as many meets, she not only swept but also improved her times in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle races. She won the 500 in a time of 5:03.48, taking .61 seconds off her personal best. She also took more than three seconds off her time in the 1,000, touching the wall in 10:17.22.
Molly Fitzpatrick (Manchester, N.H./The Derryfield School) just outstretched her opponent in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning by just .03 seconds to win in 1:07.01. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.74.
Christine Ryan (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) won a sprint to the end in the 200-yard freestyle, outstretching her opponent by just .05 seconds to win in 1:57.11.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Molly Gaynor (Scotch Plains, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) touched the wall first in a 59.07 to win by margin of just .25 seconds.
Morgan Conley (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) also won a tight race in the 50-yard freestyle, winning by .05 seconds with a time of 24:37.
Katie Duncalf (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.57, and placed second in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 2:07.60.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of Conly, Kelleigh Haley (Potomac, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart), Lauren Rutledge (Darien, Conn./Darien) andBailey Page (Brentwood, Tenn./Ravenwood) were also involved in a tight race, winning by a margin of just .05 seconds in 1:37.70. The Hoyas were behind by eight seconds after the third leg, but Page swam the final 50 yards in 24.30 seconds for the come-from-behind win.
Georgetown will return to the pool on Saturday, October 29 when it hosts Davidson in a dual meet at McCarthy Pool.
