Texas A&M Aggies Snag In-state IMer Roberto Bonilla, #15 Recruit from 2023

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Roberto Bonilla, who hails from The Woodlands, Texas, has announced his verbal commitment to Texas A&M University beginning in the 2023-24 school year.

“I’m extremely happy and excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Texas A&M! I’d like to thank my parents, coaches, and all the special people I’ve met along the way that have helped me get to where I am today. Gig’em!👍🏻❤️”

A junior at The Woodlands High School who swims year-round for The Woodlands Swim Team, Bonilla ranks #15 on our Way Too Early list of top-20 boys from the class of 2023. He has the top 400 IM time in the class, a 3:48.83 he knocked out at the 2021 Speedo Lone Star Invitational in March. He finished second in the 400 IM at the meet, won the 200 fly, and was fifth in the 200 breast. He left Mansfield with new PBs in the 50 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 IM. A week earlier, he had gone best times in the 100 breast and 200 IM at the Texas UIL 6A State Swimming and Diving Meet, where he finished 2nd and 4th in the respective events.

In 2019, Bonilla represented Guatemala at the 32nd CCCAN Swimming Championships 2019 and the 7th FINA World Junior Championships. In Budapest, he swam the 100/200 breast and 200/400 IM; his highest finish was 31st in the 400 IM with 4:41.23. Two summers later, he was runner-up in that same event at 2021 Speedo Summer Championships-West, going 4:23.66. It was a PB by 3 seconds and gave him the #23 American performance of all-time in the 15-16 age group.

Best SCY Times:

  • 400 IM – 3:48.83
  • 200 IM – 1:49.94
  • 200 fly – 1:46.45
  • 100 breast – 55.86
  • 200 breast – 2:01.33

Bonilla will join the Aggies’ class of 2027 with Logan Brown and will overlap with Vincent Ribeiro and Max Hardt, who also specialize in breast and IM.
