St. Francis Names 2017-18 Captains

The Saint Francis Swimming team, led by Head Coach Rory Coleman, has announced its team captains for the 2017-18 season. The Red Flash captains include seniors Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen), Kasey Marks (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) and junior Rory O’Dell (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood).

Lafferty enters her second year as a team captain. The Indiana native earned three Top Four finishes at last year’s NEC Championships. She finished third in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 23.37. That ranks as the second-best time in that event in program history. Lafferty was also fourth in the 100-yard and 200-yard Freestyle. She posted a time of 51.15 in the 100-yard Freestyle and a pace of 1:51.09 in the 200-yard Freestyle.

Marks competes in many long distance events for the Red Flash. She finished 14th in the 1,650-yard Freestyle at the NEC Championships, with a time of 18:07.56. She was also 16th in the 400-yard IM, with a time of 4:45.03.

O’Dell recently won the program’s Teammate of the Year award. She placed 10th in the 400-yard IM at the 2017 NEC Championships, with a time of 4:37.40. O’Dell has the fifth-best 200-yard Butterfly time in program history, 2:08.09, and the program’s eighth-best time in the 200-yard Backstroke, 2:07.45.

The Red Flash went 11-8 last season, setting a program wins record. Saint Francis won all three of its home meets and was 1-1 in NEC meets. SFU finished fourth at the NEC Championships.
