St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving head coach Sean McNamee has announced the 2016-17 schedule, featuring four home meets.
The Bonnies will host Cleveland State, Colgate, Cornell and Niagara to highlight the schedule. The 2017 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 15 through Sunday, Feb. 18.
“It’s going to be an interesting season to watch,” said McNamee, who is entering his 23rd year as the Bona head coach. “We have a very strong group of seniors, along with a monstrous group of freshmen. We are going to need to lean heavily on the freshman class to develop quickly in order for us to achieve our lofty goals for the season.”
The Bonnies open up the season hosting a pair of opponents for a weekend home series. Cleveland State will come to the Reilly Center Pool on Friday, Oct. 21, and St. Bonaventure will compete against Colgate the following day, Oct. 22.
The following weekend, the Bonnies will participate in the Atlantic 10 Pod Meet at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The two-day event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 30.
After a two-week hiatus, SBU will head to Erie Community College to take on Little Three rival Canisius on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Bonnies’ lone action in December will be at the Akron Zippy Invite, which spans from Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4.
St. Bona will compete at Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 14 before returning home to the RC Pool to host Cornell on Sunday, Jan. 21.
The Bonnies’ final weekend of the season prior to the Atlantic 10 Championships features a trip to Buffalo on Friday, Jan. 27 and a home meet the following day on Jan. 28 against Niagara.
The men’s swimming and diving program has captured five Atlantic 10 Championships in its history, and the Bonnies are coming off a second-place finish in the 2015-16.
