…Federica Pellegrini is back on the hunt for a new coach. After just about a year with coach Claudio Rossetto, she and her beau Filippo Magnini have decided to split up with their old leader (though not with each other). Prior to that, she was with coach Philippe Lucas only a short time, parting ways after an apparent disagreement over where they should train. Pellegrini has been up-and-down since the hearbreaking death of her Hall of Fame coach Alberto Castagnetti in 2009, but the Olympics were definitely a down: she failed to defend her two World Titles, finishing 5th in both the 200 free and 400 free. Magnini failed to even final in London, afterward having a very public outburst against team leadership for poor training management of the whole of the Italian team…
…Loyola University in Maryland will join the Patriot League beginning in the 2013-2014 academic year. Loyola’s athletics program has been rapidly rising in prestige, and this move from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, as a whole program, reflects that. The Greyhound men’s team, that includes Paralympian Joe Wise, has won three out of the last four MAAC Conference Titles, but in their new conference will step up against new powers from Patriot powers Navy, Colgate, Lehigh, and Bucknell. The women’s program has at least one standout who could win a conference title in year 1 – sprinter Caitlin Cronin will be entering her senior season as Loyola joins their new league. The school is located in Baltimore, which thanks to Michael Phelps and Bob Bowman has become a swimming hotspot…
…The Canadian Paralympic Committee revealed today that Canada would be the host of the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships. London has been a global breakout for Paralympic athletes, especially swimmers, and next year’s meet will look to capitalize on that momentum. The Candian team has already won 10 swimming medals, three of them gold, on the back of stars like Summer Mortimer and Benoit Huot. The host city has not yet been confirmed…
Against a very powerfull Schmitt , she was nowhere in that final . She better change coach and come train in Usa . Maybe with Bowman ……. hehehe
i have a feeling she is more than a handful!
i was a little disappointed with Pellegrini. i didn’t think she had much of a chance defending her 200 gold, but after her 4:01 in Shanghai, i was expecting she would be up there in the hunt for gold in the 400. heck, she is still relatively young for a swimmer so i hope she keeps on going.
