SIOUX FALLS— The South Dakota State swim and dive program competed for the first time in its entirety this season at the USD Quad Duals at the Midco Aquatic Center Friday and Saturday.

ON THE MEN’S SIDE
FRIDAY
SDSU’s 400 medley relay team (Benson, Sorenson, Steffen, White) took third in the event Friday night with a 3:35.88 clocking. Marcus Benson would then go on to take second in the men’s 100 back with a time of 53.71. SDSU’s 200 free relay of Will Bierschbach, Charles Seiglaff, Henry Skinner and Max White came in second with a 1:25.76. Right behind that squad was State’s team of Caleb Harthoorn, Zander McLeod-Boyd, Caleb Schoenhouer and Cody Watkins who finished in a time of 1:28.18. Individually, Caleb Harthoorn finished third in the 100 back with a 53.87 clocking. Cayden Christianson finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 1:58.55. Charles Sieglaff had two second place finishes, one in the 50 free with a time of 21.56 and one in the 100 where he swam a 47.77. Damon Venner came in second in the 1000 free with a 10:33.20 recording. Spencer Fritze finished in first place in the men’s one meter dive, racking up 259.80 points.On the three meter board, Fritze would finish second with 265.95 points while Zach Boyd followed with 250.15.
SATURDAY
On Saturday, SDSU’s 200 free relay team of Marcus Benson, Gavin Wheeler, Cody Watkins and Liam Murray took second with a time of 1:36.80. Matt Sorenson took a third place finish in the 200 free with a clocking of 1:47.43. In the 50 free, Charles Sieglaff finished runner-up with a time of 21.73. In the 100 IM, Cayden Christianson swam a time of 54.35 to claim third place. In the 200 fly, Max White took third place with a time of 2:00.15. Will Bierschbach and Charles Sieglaff both continued their early season success. This time, they showed it by going 1-2 in the 100 free with Bierschbach taking second with a 48.39 and Sieglaff taking third with a 48.72. Caleb Harthoorn claimed second in the 200 backstroke with a 1:57.61 while Marcus Benson followed with a third place finish and time of 1:58.27. Alex Kraft (2nd, 4:58.79) and Matt Sorenson (3rd, 5:02.05) finish in the top three for the Jacks in the 500 free.Quenton Steffen finished in 2:12.98 for third place in the 200 breast.
On the boards, Zach Boyd scored 263.65 in the one meter dive and did the same thing in the three meter, this time with 255.55 points.
ON THE WOMEN’S SIDE
FRIDAY
SDSU’s ‘A’ relay of Kelsey Kocon, Alyssa Eckstein, Kristen Davis and Emma Bachelder finished in second with a time of 3:55.98 while the ‘B’ squad of Sianne Downes, Sam Frigard, Liezl Ocon and Grace Witherspoon finished in 4:01.39. Emily Pincus captured her first gold of the season with a 10:33.24 clocking in the 1000. Elisabeth Timmer turned in a time of 1:44.89 to take first in the 200 free. Emma Walz captured second in the 50 free with a time of 24.25 and Grace Witherspoon followed with a 24.73. Alyssa Eckstein claimed second in the 200 IM with a 2:11.44 clocking. In the 100 fly,| Kristen Davis swam a 58.49 to take third. Kelsey Cocon came in second in the 100 back with a 58.09. Alyssa Eckstein went on to finish third with a 1:07.12 in the 100 breast. In the 200 free relay, SDSU’s ‘A’ squad (Timmer, Walz, Drezen, Kocon) took gold with a 1:35.95. Aleni Stoakes picked up 213.55 points on the one meter board and third on the three meter board with 217.30 points. Quincee Simonson scored 217.75 from three meters.

SDSU ‘B’ (Walz, Eckstein, Ocon, Witherspoon) took second in 1:49.02 while the ‘A’ relay of (Kocon, Frigard, Davis, Drezen) finished third with a 1:49.07 clocking.Zoey Ahrens takes second in a time of 18:23.84 in the 1650 free. Grabbing her second gold of the meet, Emily Pincus finished in 1:55.69 to take first for the Jackrabbits while Emma Walz took second with a 1:56.32 in the 200 free! Elisabeth Timmer finishes first with a 24.09 and Emma Bachelder follows with a 24.85 to take second in the 50 free. Timmer also took first in the 100 free with a 52.77, while Emma Bachelder took third with a 54.52! Emily Pincus swam a 5:12.90 to lead the Jacks and take first in the 500 free. Zoey Ahrens followed with a 5:22.65 for third. Alyssa Eckstein took gold with a 2:24.43 clocking, while Samantha Frigard ended up in third with a 2:29.65! SDSU’s ‘A’ squad of Emily Pincus, Emma Bachelder, Emma Walz and Elizabeth Timmer claimed first with a 3:32.92 In the 400 free relay.
Quincee Simonson finished in third place on the one meter board with 236.80 points.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—South Dakota swimming and diving captured 14 events Saturday to total 25 wins over the weekend at the Coyote Quad Duals inside Midco Aquatic Center.
South Dakota’s men won both of its duals, defeating South Dakota State 155-87 and Iowa Central 180-51. South Dakota’s women won 3 of 4 duals Saturday. The Coyotes defeated Sioux Falls 129-105, Augustana 160-74 and Iowa Central 206-4, while South Dakota State won its dual against the Coyotes 137-106.
Junior Maddie Lavin clocked a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.46. She was five seconds off her own school record, but only three other Coyotes have swam faster in the event.
The Coyotes swept all four of Saturday’s dives with freshman Stella Fairbanks taking the women’s and senior Seth O’Dea capturing the men’s.
Fairbanks completed a perfect weekend by winning all four diving competitions. She captured Saturday’s three-meter dive with a score of 271.35 points, launching her onto the Coyote Top 10 for the sixth-best mark in the event. She also won the one-meter dive in 242.40. Senior teammate Haley Pederson finished runner-up in both dives, while freshman Kayla Middaugh placed third in the 3-meter.
O’Dea scored 292.65 points on the 3-meter dive and 268.95 points for the 1-meter dive. Junior teammate Hudson Wilkerson took third in both dives.
Junior Jacob Won added a pair of wins Saturday in the 200 free (1:44.16) and 200 fly (1:54.64). Classmate Griffin Wolner finished just behind for second in both races.
Sophomore Zachary Kopp swept the 50 free (21.63) and 100 free (48.09) races.
Junior Charlie Bean clocked 4:56.52 to win Saturday’s 500 free. He also placed third in the 50 free.
Continuing to rack up distance wins in his young career, freshman Keegan Henning won the 1,650 free with a time of 16:46.21. He swept Friday’s 500 and 1,000 free races. Freshman Carter Anderson placed third in the 1,650 race to Henning. On the women’s side, sophomore Teagan Haberkorn took third in the 1,650.
Junior Lucie Anderson was victorious in the 200 back with a clocking of 2:08.04.
Junior Jake Leichner captured the 100 IM with a time of 53.68 seconds. He finished second in the 200 breast in 2:11.11.
The Coyote men followed-up yesterday’s 400 medley relay victory with a first- and third-place finish in Saturday’s 200 medley relay. USD’s winning relay of junior Brady Torborg, Leichner, Zachary Kopp and Bean clocked 1:34.93. Freshman Colton Burks, sophomore Mack Sathre, freshman Jackson Gurley and sophomore Aidan Gantenbein raced on USD’s third-place relay.
USD also finished second and third in the men’s 400 free relay. Won, Gantenbein, senior Wyatt Thompson and Torborg finished runner-up in 3:11.09. The Coyotes’ B relay consisting of freshman Trevor Sinclair, sophomore Cory Jacocks, freshman Parker Sonnabend and Gurley, took third.
The Coyote women took third in the women’s 400 free relay. Senior Maddie Gallagher, junior Delaney Kottke, sophomore Emily Johnson and junior Isabel Fairbanks teamed up to clock 3:42.17.
Other top-three finishes on Saturday included junior Leah Drengenberg placing second in the 500 free, junior Isabelle Davenport finishing second in the 100 IM and Johnson taking third in the 200 free.
The Coyote women return to action next Saturday with a dual against Omaha inside the DakotaDome Pool in Vermillion.

SIOUX FALLS – For the second straight day, the University of Sioux Falls Swimming Team (12-5) put together a standout performance at the Coyote Quad Duals competition strong, which concluded on Saturday at the Midco Aquatic Center.
Overall on Saturday, USF was 2-2 in dual competitions with only losses to DI programs University of South Dakota and South Dakota State. USF finished 4-4 on the weekend in dual competitions. The Cougars defeated Iowa Central, 151-5 and Augustana, 134-57, but lost to DI University of South Dakota, 129-105 and South Dakota State, 137-106. As a result, USF has won 22 straight non DI matches and 21 straight duals at the DII level. extended its winning streak to 20 against DII opponents and 21 against non-DI schools. USF’s has five dual losses this year and to only DI foes. The 17 dual competitions are the most in program history.
In competition Saturday, USF had two first place finishes, including one relay and one individual title. The Cougars had 10 swimmers/relay teams finish in the top three throughout the day, as well as 21 top eight finishes.
“I am very pleased with the performance of this team this weekend and this year,” said USF Head Coach Chris Hamstra. “In this year of CoVID-19, we have battled and remained focused throughout. It is remarkable really how hard this group has worked. From our outstanding senior leadership to the performances of young swimmers, this team has stepped up each and every week. We now look forward to the NSIC Meet in a couple of weeks,” he said.
USF was led by several individuals who won titles, either individually or on a relay. The reigning NSIC Swimmer of the Week, Jenna Krahn, was a part of the 200 medley relay winning team (1:48.81), which also included Elizabeth Spaans, Chantal Kasch, and Valerie Childs. An All-American a year ago, Krahn has 16 overall titles this year, 10 individual and six by relays. She was also part of USF’s second place 400 free relay, which clocked 3:35.55. Krahn was joined on the team of freshman Domenica Solano, sophomore Ursula Demarquet, and sophomore Valerie Childs.
All-American junior Elizabeth Spaans captured two titles, one individual and one relay, and now has nine titles on the season with seven of them individual wins. She took first place in the 100 IM (1:00.25) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team at the Coyote Quad Dual.
Sophomore Makenzy Kennedy finished second in the 200 fly (2:12.28), with Childs right behind her in third (2:13.30), and freshman Paulina Ruelas finished in fifth (2:15.95).
All-American Chantal Kasch had a solid performance in the 200 breast by clocking 2:24.69 for second place, with Abby Ford grabbing fifth place behind her (2:31.67). Kasch, a senior standout, finished second in the 100 breast by .13 on Friday and lost another tight competition as her time of 2:24.69 was just .26 away from first place.
Also on Saturday, senior Evelyn VanDeMark was fifth in the 500 free (5:24.70), while freshman Kaylee Tringali finished eighth (5:33.36). Tringali also grabbed fifth place in the 200 free, with a time of 2:01.81.
Demarquet placed third in the 50 free with a clocking of 25.38, while Bailey was sixth in the same race with a time of 25.38.

Also in the 200 medley, USF placed fifth in 1:51.39, with a team of freshman Ilinde du Plessis, Ruelas, Kennedy, and Bailey. USF was eighth (3:50.82) in the 400 free relay with a squad of Tringali, Burke Henderson, senior Giulia Fazza Marcon, and freshman Natalia Escalante.
The USF Swimming Team now prepares for the NSIC Conference Championships in Fargo, ND (Feb. 10 – Feb. 13). A year ago, USF was third for the third straight year.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Competing for the first time this season, the Iowa Central men’s swim program picked up seven first place finishes over two days at the University of South Dakota and the Coyote Quad Duals.
The Tritons swam against the host Coyotes, South Dakota State and Sioux Falls from inside the Midco Aquatic Center.
Kyle McKenzie captured three top finishes over the weekend, winning the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke on Friday and the 200 breaststroke on Saturday. He was also second in the 100 individual medley.
Johnathon Turner placed first in the 50 free and 100 butterfly to go along with a fourth in the 100 individual medley and sixth in the 100 freestyle. Andrew Iverson was the winner of the 1000 and placed second in both the 1650 and 500.
Tjeerd Van Stein finished as the winner of the 200 backstroke and was fourth in both the 200 free and 100 backstroke events with Logan Childers adding a silver in the 1000, Andres Giles a fourth in the 200 breaststroke and Javier Santiago a seventh in the 200 backstroke.
Iowa Central is set to compete again on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13 in Davenport, Iowa at St. Ambrose.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Augustana swimming team completed a weekend of action at the Coyote Invitational with two days of quad duals. The Vikings competed against South Dakota, South Dakota State, Sioux Falls and Iowa Central Community College.
“We had another good weekend of swimming,” said Augustana head coach Lindsie Micko. “Many ladies made improvements from two weeks ago and we are set up to have a successful NSIC Championships.”
Senior Taylor Beagle came away with wins on both days, winning the 500-freestyle on Friday night, touching the wall in 5:04.78 and the 1650-free on Saturday in a time of 17:27.56. She also placed third in the 200 IM at 2:11.72.
Sophomore Ruth Huffman also placed in the 500-free coming in fifth at 5:23.74.
Also finding success was junior Isabel Waite, placing sixth in the 50-free touching the wall in 25.61. Joining her was junior classmate Alysse Grohs swimming to a fourth place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:30.23.
There were also two fourth-place relay finishes on the weekend. The 200-yard free relay on Friday night starring Robarge, Waite, senior Merriam Hagadorn and sophomore Justine Stellmaker snagged fourth in a time of 1:42.88.
Also placing fourth in the 400-yard free relay was Robarge, junior Rebecca Schmidt, Huffman and Stellmaker with a time of 3:43.26.
Augustana returns to competition at the NSIC Championships, which will be held in West Fargo, North Dakota, on Feb. 10-13.
