Skyler Horder Commits to In-State University of San Diego for Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Skyler Horder from San Ramon, California has announced her commitment to swim and study at Division I University of San Diego beginning in fall 2022.

I am SO excited to announce my commitment to swim and study at the University of San Diego! I am truly honored and I can’t thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches enough for helping to make this dream come true. Can’t wait to be a Torero for the next four years!”

Horder swims for Diablo Aquatics out of Danville, California. Primarily a sprint freestyler, she has made great strides this year. In March at the Arizona Spring Sectionals, she notched short course lifetime bests in the 50 (24.09) and 100 freestyles (53.18) as well as 100 backstroke (59.89) and 100 butterfly (57.48). Both her 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly times were her first futures cuts. She has continued her best time momentum into this summer where she most recently competed at the Austin Sectional meet. There she earned best long course times in the same events as March, the 50 freestyle (28.12), 100 freestyle (1:01.53), 100 backstroke (1:09.57) and 100 butterfly (1:05.90).

Horder attends California High School in San Ramon, California, a suburb of San Francisco.

Her best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 24.09
  • 100 freestyle: 53.18
  • 100 butterfly: 57.48
  • 100 backstroke: 59.89

The University of San Diego is a private university located in San Diego, CA. The school is a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).

At this year’s conference meet, the San Diego women finished 7th out of 7 teams with 159 points. Horder is just off conference scoring times in numerous events. Her best time in the 50 freestyle is just off the 16th place finisher of 24.07.

She would have been the top finisher for San Diego in the 100 freestyle as her best time would have finished 17th. 16th place swam a time of 52.67, a 0.51 seconds difference. Her best time also would have finished 17th in the 100 butterfly, and there is only a 0.11 seconds difference between her best time and the 16th place finisher.

She also has the potential to make an impact on the San Diego 400 freestyle relay. That relay placed 6th out of 7 places and featured all sprinters going 53 splits. The leadoff leg swam a 53.88 meaning in the future if Horder swims her best time as the leadoff, the relay could improve by 0.70 seconds. This fall San Diego also brings in sprinters Kate Peterson (best time of 52.91) and Gabrielle Zinis (best time of 53.40) who also have the potential to boost the 400 freestyle relay before Horder arrives on campus next fall.

Horder is the second announced commit for the University of San Diego class of 2026. She joins Anna Vermeulen who will suit up next fall for the 2022-2023 school year.
