PRESS RELEASE – SIENA

NEWARK, NJ – Nine members of the Siena Swimming & Diving (4-8) team posted individual first place finishes, as the team collected a neutral site dual met win Sunday afternoon. The Saints traveled to Newark, New Jersey to defeat Howard, 166-126, in the conclusion of its 2019-20 regular season competition.

Freshman diver Lydia DeLano began the team’s second competition in as many days with yet another triumph in the three-meter diving event, edging out the Bison’s lone diver by two points with a score of 236.10.

Classmate Reilly King then followed up with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:49.50), while classmate Lauren Ostrander won the 200-yard freestyle for the second straight day with a time of 2:02.15.

The team’s freshman dominance continued with Jessica Shine, who took first place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.49), 200 fly (2:13.52) and 200-yard IM (2:15.54). King later became the second saint to lock up three event wins, placing first in the 200-yard back (2:16.96) and 500 free (5:19.21) later in the meet.

The Saints improved to 2-0 all-time against the Bison in the teams’ first head-to-head competition since 2008. Last year’s scheduled meet at NJIT’s Wellness & Events Center was cancelled due to inclement weather. Siena concludes its 2019-20 regular season with four dual meet wins for the second time in the last three years.

The Green and Gold will now focus on postseason competition, with the 2020 MAAC Championships in view. Siena will head to the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY from February 12-15, and will look to build on an eighth place finish from last season.
