SAN JOSE, Calif.—Shyann Kissinger won her first race of the season and helped lead the San José State women’s swimming and diving team to a victory over Cal State East Bay, 122-79, Friday afternoon at the SRAC.
- Kissinger won the 1000 freestyle with a season-best 10:45.65, and finished third in the 500 freestyle at 5:18.10.
- Five other Spartans won individual races, and both relay teams were victorious on Friday
- Hailey Grotte won the 200 freestyle at 1:52.97.
- Lais Gasparini e Silva was victorious in the 50 freestyle at 23.75.
- Ellie Shorten won the 200 backstroke at 2:02.06.
- Mya Azzopardi won the 500 freestyle at 5:11.46.
- Vilma Lindberg won the final individual race of the meet with a 2:18.83 in the 200 breaststroke.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay women’s swimming team showcased strong individual performances despite falling to San Jose State 122-79 in a dual meet Friday afternoon at the SRAC Pool.
The Pioneers demonstrated their resilience and talent throughout the competition, with several swimmers and relay teams achieving notable results:
- Sophomore Tehani Kong set a new Pioneer record in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:02.06 and breaking her own previously held mark. Kong’s time also was a 2024-25 NCAA ‘B’ Standard for NCAA Division II Women’s Swimming.
- Just trailing Kong in the 200-yard butterfly was Alexia Fajardo, finishing with a time of 2:05.25.
- Junior Kylie Beaudet claimed victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:08.57.
- Senior Brooklyn Dressel powered to a win in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 51.59 seconds.
- Freshman Kali Mull secured a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:16.15.
- The Pioneers’ 200-yard medley relay team of Lily Caraway, Beaudet, Kong, and Dressel opened the meet with a strong second-place finish, posting a time of 1:46.24.
- Miya French and Audrey Hemsworth put forth solid efforts in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing second and third respectively.
- Cal State East Bay also showed depth in the backstroke events, with sophomore Hannah Sharp taking second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.58).
The Pioneers will look to build on these performances as they prepare for their next challenge after a short turnaround. The team travels to Santa Cruz, California, for a dual meet against UC Santa Cruz on Saturday. The competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. from the UCSC Pool.
