VILLANOVA, PA – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team topped Big East opponent Villanova, 165-128, in a dual meet Wednesday night. The Broncs improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2.
The Bronc men won 10 events in the meet.
Rider got off to a strong start in the 200-medley relay. Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross), Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional), Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy), and Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) swam to a winning time of 1:31.93.
Derek Fantano (Morris, CT/Holy Cross) followed with an impressive swim of 9:43.27 to win the 1,000-free.
In the 100-back, Racevicius and David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) swam one-two, stopping the clock at 49.86 and 50.82. Rucci later won the 200-IM in 1:53.25.
The Broncs swept the 100-breast. Alex Boeckx (Folsom, PA/Ridley), Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), and Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) swam 56.50, 57.60, and 58.37 in the win. Connelly later won the 200-breast in 2:05.11.
Irwin and Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) finished one-two in the 50-free, touching the wall at 21.18 and 21.26.
Christian Overton (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and Fantano swam one-two in the 200-back, stopping the clock at 1:51.10 and 1:51.75.
Rider got another sweep in the 100-fly. Lane, Racevicius, and James Bugianesi (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) posted swims of 50.17, 50.39, and 51.54.
The 200-free relay team of Racevicius, Irwin, Ruddy, and Boeckx closed out the meet with a winning time of 1:24.14.

– Matt Lequang (Plainsboro, NJ/Notre Dame) took second in the 200-free.
– Lane placed third in the 200-fly.
– Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) finished two-three on the 1-meter. Racevicius was then second and Xantheas third on the 3-meter.
– Irwin swam second in the 100-free.
– Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) and Lequang finished two-three in the 500-free.

VILLANOVA, Pa. – In its first home meet of the year, the Villanova Men’s Swimming and Diving team suffered a 156-128 loss to Rider Wednesday evening.
The Wildcats recorded six event wins courtesy of seniors Charlie Hinckley and Nolan Danus, and sophomores Chris Jones and Gavin Jones.
The highlight of the day was Chris Jones on the platform and Hinckley between the lane lines. Jones started the day for the Wildcats by sweeping the diving portion of the meet. The Linden, Mich native scored 252.98 in 1 meter and 281.63 in 3 meter. In the pool, Hinckley bested the field in the 200 freestyle (1:41.22) and 500 freestyle (4:39.07).
While in the 200 butterfly, Danus finished ahead of the competition by two second tapping the wall at 1:53.43. Securing another freestyle event win, Gavin Jones swam 47.18 to win the 100 freestyle ahead of teammates Mikey Thurk (47.64) and Patrick Hemingway (47.77) in third and fourth, respectfully. With second and third place finishes in the 200 IM, Danus (1:55.39) and Gavin Jones (1:57.12) combined for a total of seven points in the event.
Freshman Justin Nowicki had a solid outing finishing second in both the 1000 freesyle and 200 butterfly. Nowicki tapped the wall at 9:48.47 in the freestyle and finished just behind Danus in the butterfly clocking in at 1:55.72.
Other notable performances came by way of senior Richard Nolan, junior Henry Halloran and freshman Ben Tunila. The trio finished second through fourth in the 200 breaststroke to pick up important points for Villanova. Nolan was the first Wildcat in the race to tap the wall at 2:07.99, followed by Halloran (2:08.03) and Tunila (2:09.51).
Capping off the day, the quartet of Gavin Jones, Thurk, junior Patrick Hemingway, and sophomore Henry Gingrich joined forces in the 200 freestyle relay to finish second and record a time of 1:26.22.
The Villanova men have a quick turnaround as the team heads to Newark, N.J. on Friday November 3 to compete against NJIT.
