HOUSTON – Two more standout student-athletes, Rebecca Brandt and Ahalya Lettenberger, have been added to the Rice swim team’s 2019-2020 roster Owl head coach Seth Huston announced.
The duo join the previously-announced swim team’s signing class of eight, bringing the total list of Owl newcomers into double-digits. The ten newcomers are enrolled for the upcoming 2019-2020 swim season that traditionally begins in mid-September.
Brandt is a junior transfer from the University of Houston, where she was a bronze medalist in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships with a NCAA provisional time of 1:59.00. The Dallas, Texas, native was also sixth in the AAC’s 100-fly (54.96) and the winner of the Consolation Final of the league’s 400-individual medley (4:23.62).
Lettenberger is an incoming freshman from Glyn Ellyn, Illinois, who was recently selected to represent her country in an international swim meet as a member of the United States Paralympic Team. The 2019 World Para Swimming Championships will be held in England at the London Aquatics Centre – the same venue as 2012 Paralympic Games.
Coach Huston said:
“Becca’s academic and athletic success to this point make her a great fit for Rice University and our swimming program. I think she will be a great contributor to Rice. Ahalya will make our team better because she is a determined, high-level student and athlete. She is exactly what we look for in continuing our team culture of passion to sport, personal growth and team.”
