Phoenix Swim Club’s Holli Johnson has given her verbal commitment to the University of Northern Colorado. Johnson, who is a senior at Mountain Ridge High School, will join the UNC Bears in the fall as part of their freshman class.
TOP TIMES
- 500y free – 5:00.95
- 1000y free – 10:17.16
- 1650y free – 16:52.71
- 100y fly – 58.92
- 200y fly – 2:08.49
Johnson is primarily a distance swimmer, who gets better as the distance increases. For her secondary events, Johnson is a pretty strong butterflier, as well. All of her distance free personal best times were done just two weekends ago at the Four Corners Sectionals in Texas.
Additionally, Johnson’s fast-improving. Before the Four Corners meet, Johnson’s best times in the distance events were 5:08.74 in the 500, 10:23.73 in the 1000, and 17:22.47 in the mile. Registering huge best times towards the end of high school is a good sign for further improvement in college, and Johnson has been dropping considerable time in her distance races.
Northern Colorado finished 7th out of 8 teams on the women’s side at the 2017 WAC Championships. At this year’s meet, with her best times, Johnson would’ve tied for 2nd in the 1650 free, making her a big get for the Bears. She also would have nearly made the A final in the 500 free with her 5:00.95.
