Prelim Heat Sheets Released For 2024 Olympic Games

2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

The pre-scratch heat sheets for the eight preliminary sessions at the 2024 Olympic Games have dropped with less than 24 hours to go before the competition gets underway in Paris.

Things will kick off on Saturday morning with heats in the women’s 100 fly and 400 free, the men’s 100 breast and 400 free, and then the 400 free relay for both men and women.

The first session promises to be exciting, with newly-minted world record holder Gretchen Walsh centering the final heat of the women’s 100 fly, while 2022 world champion Torri Huske and defending Olympic gold medalist Maggie MacNeil will go head-to-head in the penultimate heat, and Tokyo medalists Zhang Yufei and Emma McKeon will go to battle in Heat 2.

The women’s 400 free will feature Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky racing in the last heat and Summer McIntosh and Erika Fairweather in the first circle-seeded heat.

Qin HaiyangAdam Peaty and Nic Fink will hold down Lane 4 in the three circle-seeded heats of the men’s 100 breast, while the last two heats of the men’s 400 free will be a war for the eight spots in the final, with 16 men seeded 3:45.76 or better. The middle lanes will be held by world #1 Lukas Märtens and 2023 world champion Sam Short, with the 2022 and 2024 world champions, Elijah Winnington and Kim Woomin, the next two highest seeds.

The 400 free relays also brings plenty of excitement, including the American and Australian men racing head-to-head in the last heat of the session.

No MSH in the 400. Saving herself for relay I guess

Curious to see what the prelims 4×1 free relay will be for the US. Do you keep dressel, Alexy, Armstrong and Guiliano fresh? I would like to think they wouldn’t have a problem qualifying for finals with Held, king, Kibler, & Pieroni. Carson could also rip a 47 relay split he did it back in February

USA should do Held/Pieroni/Curry/King. 0 chance that team doesn’t qualify.

Held and King have to be on it. I don’t think Carson has earned a spot on the relay in my book, even if it is just prelims. I could see a world where Dressel actually asks to swim in the morning to settle his nerves. Guiliano has too busy of a schedule to include him in my opinion. Armstrong might be on it.

Most likely it is Held, King, and Pieroni are locks. Toss up between Armstrong and Kibler.

Would like to see Dressel swim the prelims. He usually needs to get some cobwebs out in his first swim at major meets.

I was thinking the same thing. Get that first rep out of the way

Short and Kim swimming next to each other should be a good race after what was said this week. Only a heat but feel like Short would want to make a statement

I’d certainly want to be in the last heat of the men’s 400 free knowing exactly what needs to be done.

Agree. Distance swimmers reap the benefits more so than any others.
