Potomac Marlins’ Colin Kent Verbals to Drexel Dragons

Colin Kent of the Potomac Marlins has committed to the Drexel class of 2021. Kent is a senior at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Virginia. He’s a sprint freestyler, and he swam the 50 free at the 2016 Virginia 6A State Championships, where he finished 20th. He helped out on three relays, anchoring their 200 medley relay in 21.27 to a 5th place finish in state. Both of the free relays that he swam on also scored.

TOP TIMES

  • 50y free – 21.54
  • 100y free – 48.37
  • 50m free – 24.40

Kent will add immediate depth to the Drexel sprint group when he gets to campus next fall. The Dragons just graduated 19.9/43.5 sprinter Joel Berryman after last season, so Kent’s arrival on campus is timely. He would’ve been their 5th-best 50 freestyler last season. It took a 21.11 to qualify for the B-final (there are no C-finals) at the 2016 CAA Championships in the 50 free and a 46.55 to score in the 100 free. Kent will have to improve to score in either, but he is significantly closer to scoring in the 50 than in the 100. Meanwhile, he should be an immediate contender for a spot on Drexel‘s 200 free relay, which finished 2nd in the conference last season.
