While competing at the 2016 Canadian Swimming Trials In Toronto this weekend, Polish swimmer Jan Switkowski broke through with an important victory of his own.
Swimming in last night’s B Final (since his non-Canadian) of the 200m butterfly, Switkowski scored a swift time of 1:56.25 to not only blow away his entire heat as well as the A-Final, but to register a mark below the FINA A cut of 1:56.25.

The result sits as the 10th-fastest in the world this year and the 5th best of Switkowski’s young career, which includes being crowned the Polish National Champion in the event in the 2014-15 season, but also securing a bronze medal at last year’s FINA World Championships.
While in Kazan, Switkowski managed to touch the wall in a lifetime best of 1:54.10 to stand on the podium behind Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh and South Africa’s Chad Le Clos.
Those who follow NCAA swimming may recognize the Pole from the University of Florida roster, where Switkowski transferred to from Virginia Tech, effective with the 2015/16 season.
Switkowski’s University of Florida teammate, Corey Main, also scored an automatic qualifying time for Rio while competing in Canada. The Gators sent out a congratulatory tweet to both swimmers today.
