PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh swimming & diving program has released its schedule for the 2021-22 season, announcing a slate that includes six home meets at Trees Pool and several challenging road tests leading up to postseason competition.
“We all are excited,” head coach John Hargis said. “The athletes have come into the season very driven. They had a great summer training and competing and have had a great fall. These are the closest two teams I’ve had since being here and you can just sense the energy and excitement every day.”
The Panthers open the season hosting two local foes beginning with a diving meet against Duquesne, Friday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m., followed by a relay meet against Carnegie Mellon, Saturday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m.
The team will then hit the road to Miami, Fla. for the FIU TYR Classic (Oct. 8-9) before taking on back-to-back showdowns against Notre Dame and Cleveland State in South Bend, Ind. (Oct. 15-16).
Saturday, Nov. 6 will see Pitt host George Washington and the month will conclude by the team competing in the Ohio State Invitational for the Buckeyes’ prestigious annual meet (Nov. 18-21).
The Panthers complete the calendar year with the Toyota U.S. Open (Dec. 1-4) and U.S. Winter Diving Nationals (Dec. 13-19). Pitt will once again host the Team Christmas Meet at Trees Pool from Dec. 16-19.
After the New Year, Pitt will kick off 2022 at West Virginia in the annual Backyard Brawl meet Saturday, Jan. 8, followed by a dual meet at Denison Friday, Jan. 14. The team will conclude the dual season with a women’s team only home event against Villanova on Thursday, Jan. 20.
The Panthers will finish off its home slate with the annual Western Pennsylvania Invite, which will also serve as the Senior Meet, the following weekend on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday, Jan. 29. Pitt will round out the regular season in Charlottesville, Va. at the University of Virginia’s Cavalier Invitational (Feb. 4-6).
Pitt’s championship portion of the season opens with the 2021-22 Men’s and Women’s ACC Championships. Both the men’s and women’s events will be held from Feb. 15-16 in Atlanta, Ga. The NCAA Last Chance Meet will once again be held in Columbus on Feb. 27 (women) and March 6 (men), while the NCAA Zone A Diving Meet is set for March 7-9 at Navy as the Panthers will look to qualify numerous student-athletes for NCAA competition.
The 2021-22 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are set for consecutive weeks in March. The women’s NCAA Championships will be from March 16-19 before the men’s NCAA Championships take place from March 23-26. Both events will be held in Atlanta, Ga.
Admission will be free for all home events.
Looking forward to a spirited and successful year for Panthers’ swimmers in their quest for the Gold!
Looks like Pitt is sticking to their comfortable schedule again smh
Pitt is going to get fat on the Cup Cake schedule. WVU and ND are the only competitive dual meets. There are High School Teams in Pittsburgh that have a tougher schedule. The invites are great, but not the pressure of a great dual meet. And this pressure is what is needed to get out of the ACC Cellar.
