Open water swimming doesn’t get much better than this. It was a perfect day for racing: warm without being hot, a slight breeze but not too windy, and a postcard-like setting at Castaic Lake in Southern California. Add to that a thrilling finish in which the crowd didn’t know for a good five minutes or so who won the race: Alex Meyer or Jordan Wilimovsky, and you have the recipe for a memorable national 5K championship.
