The Water Palace in Kazan, Russia is set to host the 2016 Russian Short Course National Championships next week from November 5th-9th. The pool is the one that was used for diving, synchronized swimming, and as a training pool during the 2015 World Aquatics Championships – where the main swimming venue was a temporary pool in the soccer stadium next door.
The meet will be the official selection event for the 2016 Short Course World Championships. At least two of Russia’s biggest names have already said they won’t compete at the World Championships, though they intend to be in Kazan next week. Anton Chupkov, who earned bronze in a Russian Record in the 200 breaststroke in Rio; and Evgeny Rylov, who took bronze in the 100 backstroke, are both sitting out of Worlds, according to Russian head coach Sergei Kolmogorov.
“Chupkov and Rilov will race in Kazan, but according to their individual plan, if they are selected for the Short Course World Championships then they will not swim so that they will be ready for the long course World Championships in Budapest (to be held in July),” said Kolmogorov to Russia’s R-Sport news agency.
The two are Russia’s brightest young male stars on the men’s side (Rylov is 20, Chupkov is only 19), and two of the highlights where the rest of the federation has disappointed for much of the quad, with only 2 golds at the 2013 World Championships, 1 at the 2014 European Aquatics Championships, 1 at the 2015 World Championships, and none at the 2016 Olympics.

‘They won’t swim at the world short course so that they will be ready for the long course worlds in Budapest next year’
So, he’s implying that racing at the World Short course is going to ruin their chances at swimming fast at the worlds in Budapest half a year later. How exactly? Stupidest thing I’ve read today.
Don’t want to interfere with the PED schedule for next year.
so not going to sc worlds AND not going to lc worlds? not sure if my russian interpretation is correct?
