50 back – 2014 US Nationals
In a very close race, David Plummer won the final of the men’s 50 backstroke with his time of 24.82. That should give him another trip back to the World Championships, where he will have a second chance to earn a world champs medal. Nick Thoman finished second with his time of 24.91, followed by Shane Ryan in third at 24.97. Matt Grevers was fourth at 25.18, followed by Kyle Darmody at 25.32. Eugene Godsoe was sixth at 25.48. Rounding out the top 8 in the men’s 50 backstroke was James Wells and Adam Mania at 25.55 and 25.74. Despite running into the lane lines under the flags, Bryce Bohman won the B-final of the men’s 50 backstroke with his time of 25.57. Chase Bloch was second at 25.77. David Puczkowski won the C-final of the men’s 50 backstroke with his time of 26.34, a .34 second drop from this morning.
Shoulder pain is a life problem. Having bursitis at my left Shoulder i know how that guy should feel like.
Does anybody know what Thoman’s injury is or where? I’m glad to see him continuing his career, because he’s such a talent, but swimming with constant pain sounds more like torture than fun! Be well, Nick!
Danjohnrob – it’s a shoulder pain. I think he dislocated it in training earlier this year. VERY painful.
UGH! Thanks for the info. That’s a problem for swimmers; you have flexible shoulders, but when you try to strengthen joints that are so flexible you run the risk of injury.
Nick said it was constant pain, nerve pain.
Off topic for braden: boyle just broke the short course 1500 world record 15:22:68 might be worthy a topic
Not surprising when you are able to swim 15.44 in long course. Miss Ledecky fully tapered would probably swim around 15.10.
The world record of that event not often swum in short course was 15.26.95 by Mireia Belmonte.
So it’s a very good performance. Boyle improves year after year. She’s in the big 4 of distance swimming with Ledecky, Belmonte and Friis.
But why she swims now in short course?
And will she swim at Pan Pacs? It would be good. At least Ledecky would have someone to push her a little.
Love to see Thoman on the team again ! on 100 back , many will be fighting for those 2,3 spots .
