New York Men & Women Place First In NYU Fall Invitational

The New York University men’s swimming and diving team won the NYU Fall Invitational over Princeton University (264 points), the Stevens Institute of Technology (208) and Drew University (151) in a meet held on Friday and Saturday, November 8-9, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

Top performers for the Violets included Josh Rine (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek), who won the 200-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:54.35.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Graham Chatoor (Glencoe, Trinidad/International School of Port Spain) placed first with his time of 16:02.69. Fellow Violet Macarthy Adelman (Darnestown, MD/Northwest) won the 100-yard freestyle with his mark of 47.73.

“The team has been working really hard this season to prepare to swim fast in a few weeks at Ithaca,” said Head Coach Trevor Miele. “This meet was a big part of our preparation and I was really happy with their effort and results.”

In the diving portion of the meet, NYU’s Cole Vertin (San Jose, CA/St. Francis) continued his strong campaign by winning the three-meter board. His score of 323.25 put him ahead of divers from Princeton, Drew, Stevens, and Manhattan College.

“Cole, Nick Lemieux (Eagan, MN/Eagan) and Hunter Whitbeck (Acton, MA /Acton-Boxborough Regional ) all gained their second regional qualifying scores,” said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. “Jack Callaghan (Palo Alto, CA /Palo Alto ) reached his first score, as well.”

To be eligible for the regional championships a diver must hit the qualifying score twice, utilizing either board.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, November 23. The diving team will be participating at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Open in Kings Point, NY, while the swimming team will host Johns Hopkins University at the Palladium Athletic Facility.

The New York University women’s swimming and diving team won the NYU Fall Invitational over Princeton University (217 points), the Stevens Institute of Technology (191) and Drew University (186.5) in a meet held on Friday and Saturday, November 8-9, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.     .

Top performers for the Violets on Saturday included the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Honore Collins (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township)Jessica Flynn (Charlotte, NC /Charlotte Latin School)Sydney Catron (Alexandria, VA/Bishop O’Connell), and Victoria Saliba (River Edge, NJ/River Dell). The foursome placed first with a time of 3:36.43. Flynn also captured the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (53.77), while Catron took home first in the 200-yard backstroke event with a time of 2:07.12.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Ashley Brodnick (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road) placed first with her time of 17:35.2. She also won the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:07.12.

In the diving events, NYU’s Carmen White (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) swept both boards. Her scores of 290.55 (1-meter) and 265.55 (3-meter) put her ahead of divers from Princeton, Drew, Stevens, and Manhattan College.

“Carmen won both boards and had a great performance, especially over a strong Ivy league program,” said Head Diving Coach Todd Kolean. “She has impressed in her senior year both on the boards and on the pool deck.”

NEW YORK – The Princeton University men’s & women’s swimming & diving teams competed at New York University Saturday, each finishing second out of four teams.

Tiger Relays
Princeton performed strongly in the relays, as the team of Nikkie Venema, Vivian WangChristina Bradley and Amelia Liu clocked in at 1:42.75 seconds in the 200 medley relay to take first-place. The Tigers were likewise successful on the men’s side as Derek CoxDaniel ArrisRaunak Khosla and Charles Leibson won the event in a time of 1:32.43 seconds.

The Tigers also performed strongly in the 800 freestyle relay, earning first-place finishes on both the men’s and women’s sides. The team of Ellie Marquardt, Venema, Lauren McGrath and Anna Durak clocked in at 7:24.77 seconds to emerge victorious while Nicholas LimOwen Huang, Dylan Pores and Peyton Werner posted a time of 6:46.48 seconds to earn the win.

Princeton Event Winners
Marquardt earned an NCAA B cut and won the 400 IM in 4:16.52 seconds while on the men’s side Raunak finished first in 3:58.69 seconds. In the 100 butterfly Gianna Garcia took first in 54.65 while Lim’s time of 49.73 also saw him earn the win.

In the 200 freestyle Durak touched the wall at 1:53.74 seconds to finish first and on the men’s side Pollock won with a time of 1:43.60 seconds. Christie Chong placed first in the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:03.70 seconds and on the men’s side Raunak earned another first-place finish after he clocked in at 57.21.

Garcia earned another win in the women’s 100 backstroke after she touched the wall at 55.81 while Nathan Yates prevailed on the men’s side in 51.70.

Diving
Princeton had an outstanding night on the boards as six of Princeton’s eight divers achieved NCAA Zone A qualifying standards while freshman Matthew Chao narrowly missed out despite an impressive performance.

Diving coach Sean Letsinger was encouraged by the Tigers’ performance on the boards today.

“I am really encouraged by our diving this weekend,” said Letsinger. “With this being our first meet of the season and coming off of a couple of intense weeks of training, I believe that we are on the right track. Our freshmen really were impressive today, and our women looked very strong on one meter as a group. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I am excited to see how the rest of the season unfolds.”

On the men’s 1-meter board, Colten Young earned an NCAA Zone A qualifying score of 301.80 while Chao just missed out, scoring a 297.20. On the 3-meter board, Griffin Brooks and Charlie Minns both earned Zone qualifying scores of 364.80 and 344.35. Brooks score was the fifth-highest 3- meter dual meet score in program history.

On the women’s 1-meter board Mimi LinSophia Peifer and Katrin Lewis all earned Zone qualifying marks with scores of 293.85, 291.05 and 268.35. Lin and Peifer’s scores moved them up in the women’s 1-meter dual meet record book.

Princeton’s men will take on the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University on Saturday, November 23 inside DeNunzio Pool at 11 a.m. while Princeton’s women take on Rutgers University on Friday, November 15 at 5 p.m.

NEW YORK – The Drew University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams competed in the final day of the highly-competitive NYU Invitational on Saturday and posted a number of strong performances.

The meet included Stevens, nationally-ranked NYU, and Division I Princeton, one of the top programs in the Ivy League. Both Ranger squads placed fourth in the team standings, with Drew’s women’s team finishing just 4.5 seconds behind Stevens.

Among the top finishers for the Rangers were senior Mal Vishwanath, who placed 12th among 22 competitors in the 200-freestyle (2:00.06) and seventh in a field of 11 in the 1,650-freestyle (18:20.37). Senior Stephanie Cushman came in 10th out of 18 swimmers in the 100-backstroke (1:03.25) while classmate Katie Jefferson placed 13th (1:05.12) in the same event. Freshman Grace Aboussleman was 11th in a field of 19 in the 100-freestyle (57.29) while first-year Katie Cashin came in 11th out of 16 swimmers in the 400-IM (4:44.19).

On the men’s side, the Rangers their top finish in the 100-freestyle, grabbing the ninth- through 12th-place finishes in a field of 26 competitors. Senior Jack Mahoney was ninth in 48.87 and was followed by sophomore Jake Zajdzinski (49.22), sophomore Josh Roberts (49.55), and freshman Harrison Neal (49.57). Roberts also came in 15th out of 26 swimmers in the 200-freestyle (1:47.81). In addition, senior Michael Ma placed 15th out of 24 swimmers in the 100-butterfly (53.62) and 12th among 21 competitors in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.27) while junior Matheus Macena came in 11th in a field of 18 in the 100-backstroke (55.66).

The Rangers are back in the pool next Saturday, when they travel to Landmark Conference foe Susquehanna for a dual meet starting at 2 p.m.

NEW YORK, N.Y. (November 9, 2019) – Led by the second consecutive individual runner-up finish in as many days for junior Kurt von Autenried, the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s swimming team finished in third place in the NYU Invitational Saturday at Palladium Athletic Facility.

The Ducks got three top-five individual finishes on the day as senior Daniel Rosenberger grabbed fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and sophomore Daniel Hold took home fifth in the 200-yard backstroke as Stevens finished the day with 208 total points.

Host school New York University won the meet with 474 points and Princeton University grabbed second with 264 points.

After grabbing second place in the 50-yard freestyle in the opening day of the meet, von Autenried posted a time of 47.57 in the 100-free to grab second place individually.

Stevens also posted a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of von Autenried, Rosenberger, sophomore Michael Shusta and freshman Ali Kolenovic posted a time of 3:15.38.

In total, the Ducks were able to post top-10 finishes in 12 of the 13 events on the day.

Top Performers

  • The meet started for Stevens with a sixth-place finish as freshman Chaitanya Dasari, senior Tyler Zanki, von Autenried and junior Theodore Jagodits swam a time of 1:36.55 in the 200-yard medley relay.
  • von Autenried earned a total of five top-10 finishes on the day, touching the wall in 10th place in the 100-yard butterfly to go along with his runner-up finish in the 100-free while also being a part of all three relay teams for the Ducks.
  • Rosenberger was able to post a time of 16:53.67 for his fourth-place finish in the 1,650-free.
  • The 800-yard freestyle relay team (von Autenried, Shusta, Rosenberger, Jagodits) finished in 6th place with an overall time of 7:12.69.
  • Seniors Zanki and Tristan Dixon both managed to grab seventh place in their respective events as Zanki swam a 59.16 in the 100-yard breaststroke and Dixon finished in 2:08.51 in the 200-yard butterfly.
  • Hold finished in a time of 2:02.07 in the 200-yard backstroke for his top-five finish.
  • Sophomore Matthew Kwan closed the individual events for Stevens, swimming a 2:17.18 in the 200-yard breaststroke to grab sixth place.

  • “It was a fun weekend of racing quality competition. Overall, both teams swam well, and we’re set u nicely for big drops at the Gompei Invitational next month.”

Next Up

  • The Ducks will race in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Gompei Invitational in Worcester, Massachusetts, Dec. 6-8.
