Kansas City Blazers butterflyer Rilye Fries has verbally committed to swim for the University of Nebraska next season.
Fries brings some solid butterfly talent to the Huskers, along with developmental potential in some freestyle and IM races.
She swims for coach Gardner Howland with the Kansas City Blazers and currently has best times just outside of scoring range in a tough Big Ten conference that only scores down to 16th (unlike the SEC and ACC, which score to 24th).
Fries’ Top Times
- 100 fly: 56.40
- 200 fly: 2:01.50
- 200 free: 1:53.48
- LCM 200 IM: 2:22.94
That long course 200 IM time, done this past summer, adds even a little more pop to a swimmer who was a solid prospect in the butterflys alone. The 200 IM pairs well with the 100 and 200 fly at Big Tens, if Fries can transfer that speed to short course this season.
The 200 fly looks like her best scoring bet early – her lifetime-best would have gotten her into the C final at last year’s Big Ten Championships. The butterfly races have been good ones for the Huskers, as they put 4 swimmers into various finals of the 100 fly and 2 in the the 200 fly finals.
Congrats Rilye!!! 🙂
