NCAA Champion Jillian Cox on 1,650 Pain: “It hurt bad today… I felt every lap”

2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

After winning the NCAA title in the 500 free earlier in the meet, Texas freshman Jillian Cox followed that up with a win in the 1,650 tonight. After the race, Cox, who went out strong and held the lead for the entire race, said that the race was very painful, specifically the middle 500.

Jillian, I think you can go ahead and book your flight to Singapore now while they’re cheap to save USA Swimming some badly needed money. Katie Grimes has decided to retire so there’s 3 spots open for you behind Ledecky. 🤭
