Like Lezak, I’m glad Natalie is on the team. Both her female and male teammates like her a lot and most importantly, she has the experience that can benefit the squad. The Aussies, Dutch and Chinese will be gunning for us and Natalie is probably the only swimmer who has competed against these countries consistently over the last 12 years…that alone will benefit the entire squad and staff.

My hat is off to her. She obviously had an off meet here. Missed her taper or whatever… It takes a lot of fortitude to hit this swim on the 6th day of competition. A lot of people would have been crushed emotionally and unable to recover. She showed us why she has been one of the greatest.

Has to be a huge disappointment to be going to London to just swim a relay given her track record and the fact she did everything she could training wise to make this team in an individual event but came up short. I would be curious to know if she was at a full taper because she faded the last 25m on every race she swam. On a positve note she should have a good time enjoying the venue with all the extra time. A lot of the top level athletes have expressed how they don’t get to enjoy the Olympic experience like a lot of lower level athletes do.
It is unfortunate she won’t get an individual swim. But I think it will be good for her to go and have fun with the venue at such a young age like you said. It’ll help her for 2016
No one lives the sport of swimming like Garrett McCaffrey. A Division I swimmer who spent 4 years covering the sport as a journalist, now coaches club swimming and competes as a masters swimmer, Garrett truly lives the sport of swimming.
After graduating from University of Missouri’s award winning journalism program …
