More Than Half of the Women’s 2019-20 Division II Cuts Are Faster

The 2019-20 NCAA Division II time standards are now official, and the women’s cuts continue to get faster.

This season, 17 of the 28 individual women’s cuts have been made faster, 7 A cuts and 8 B cuts. On the men’s side, only the 1000 and 1650 free A cuts have been changed along with 6 B cuts to total just 8 faster updates. All the relay provisional standards for both genders have been upgraded this season as well.

During the 2018-19 season, the men experienced 18 faster cuts while the women had 15 faster times.

Another major difference between both genders is the men experienced just 4 slower cut updates, the 100/200 back, 200 fly, and 200 IM A cuts. The women did not experience any slower updates, only the 28 faster updates or have remained the same from last season.

One eye-popping similarity that both genders had in the time updates were faster 1000/1650 free A and B cuts. While all the possible 1650 free cuts dropped by 3 seconds, this only comes out to a -0.3% time change. To put that in context, that -0.3% difference would equate to the women’s 50 free A cut to change from 22.90 down to 22.84.
