Missouri State Head Coach Dave Collins has been capitalizing on an exceptionally strong 2016 class from the Arkansas LSC. This week he added Jacob Schultz from the Jasper County Killer Whales to the list of stand-out commitments from the small LSC.
Jacob is a Winter Junior Nationals qualifier, and has achieved an NCSA Juniors cut in at least one race for all four strokes, showing versatility that may prove useful as he develops. He returned to finals at NCSA’s last spring in the 50 back, and has also earned B-final positions at the 2014 KMSC Pro-Am Classic in multiple events.
Jacob had a breakthrough at the MSHSAA Championships in St Peters recently while representing Webb City High School. He was crowned the Missouri Champion in the 100 fly and runner-up for the 200 IM with large improvements bringing both of those swims into the spotlight. He has also turned in splits for the 50 fly (21.9) and 50 back (23.7) that may be valuable in relays as Missouri State makes a push toward taking back the Mid-American Conference title from Eastern Michigan.
Jacob should make an impact right away for the Bears, as he would have squeaked into the A-final for the 200 IM and taken a high place within the B-final for the 100 fly based on 2015 results.
“I chose Missouri State because the team makes it look fun and I know a lot of the team members already. Dave and Chelsea are good coaches and I hope that they can build me up throughout the season to go best times. I am looking forward to my freshman year!”
