Minnesota Swim & Dive Set for North Dakota

The University of Minnesota swimming and diving teams will face North Dakota this Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11:00 a.m. in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Maroon and Gold travel squad will have a different look from previous weeks, as they give other student-athletes road meet experience.

MATCH-UP REWIND
Last year’s dual between Minnesota and North Dakota featured a sprint-focused meet in Minneapolis. Both Gopher teams had convincing wins as they posted top-place finishes in each event contested.

LAST TIME OUT
Minnesota took down the Hawkeyes last Friday in Iowa City, Iowa. The women’s team won every individual event, with seven women earning two individual gold finishes. The men powered their way to their first “W” of the season. They went 1-2-3 in the 200 IM and 1-meter diving. Matt Barnard, Michael Messner and Yu Zhou were recognized by the Big Ten Conference for their first-place finishes. Barnard and Zhou were named B1G Divers of the Week, while Messner was selected as B1G Co-Freshman of the Week.

GOPHERS IN THE RANKS
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has both University of Minnesota squads ranked in the top-25 among NCAA Division I programs. The women’s team currently holds the No. 22 spot as of Nov. 4, while the men were last ranked No. 20 on Oct. 29.

ON THE DOCKET
The Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center will play host to the Arena Pro Swim Series at Minneapolis from Thursday, Nov. 12 through Saturday, Nov. 14. The three-day, long course meters meet will offer the Gophers more chances to pick up Olympic Trials cuts, as well as a good check-point on the season. Minnesota’s divers will head to Georgia Tech for an invitational from Thursday, Nov. 19 from Saturday, Nov. 21.
