Mike Bottom: “It’s Meets Like This That Really Allow Your Team to Build”

Natalie Schumann and Jessica Campbell are on deck in Bloomington, Indiana, and the two IU journalism majors are leading our coverage of the Big Ten Championships.

They caught up with Mike Bottom again tonight (they first talked to him after a record-breaking opening night). He was still emphasizing team, talking about what’s important to the team, but he seemed markedly more relaxed than he did the first time; as though he was ready to allow himself to enjoy the incredible swimming his team had been doing. But he’s still focused, he knows there’s still NCAA cuts to be gotten, and relay decisions to be made on the final day of the meet.

Among other things, Bottom also discusses his thought process behind his choices for the 400 free relay, with someone like Anders Lie swimming so well.
