Earlier today, my colleague Mel Stewart posted a great behind-the-scenes video about Ryan Lochte and historic cover appearance at Vogue magazine. This shows how mainstream swimming is becoming, even under the guise of the Olympic year hysteria in a major fashion center like London.
But he’s not the only swimmer to make the pages of their special Olympic issue. One Missy Franklin is among the Olympic hopefuls featured inside the magazine, and she was given a two-page spread.
Check out the story here, and notice the picture above. Ironically, Franklin ended up in a butterfly-esque pose. Apparently, backstroke and freestyle aren’t as fashionable or photogenic.
This was an opportunity that Missy just couldn’t pass up – working with one of the world’s premier fashion photographers in Bruce Weber, and in a shoot that respects her values.
Plus, it was Vogue in Miami Beach. A dream come true!
Thx for the link Nadador!
