Futures qualifier Megan Maholic has verbally committed to swim at the University of South Carolina. Maholic is a current senior at Villa Maria Academy High School.

Maholic swims club for the Peninsula Wave Riders. She won first place earlier this year in the 200 backstroke at the Lake Erie Senior Championships. She also competed in the Speedo Sectionals in Geneva, Ohio, in July, where she earned second place in the 50-meter backstroke and fifth place in the 100-meter backstroke.
She has a Winter Juniors cut in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Her best short course times are:
- 50 backstroke: 26.36
- 100 backstroke: 54.98
- 200 backstroke: 1:59.80
The University of South Carolina is a member of the Southeastern Conference. At the 2021 SEC women’s championships, South Carolina placed eleventh out of 12 teams. The team will be returning six backstrokers next year, but Mari Kraus, the only South Carolina swimmer to make finals in the 100 and 200 backstroke, will be graduating this year.
During the 2019-20 season, the most recent season for which data is available, Maholic would have had the fourth-fastest performance in the 100 backstroke for the team. At the 2021 conference championships, Maholic would have placed 35th in the 100 backstroke and 43rd in the 200 backstroke, leaving her room to improve under the leadership of South Carolina’s coaching staff.
Maholic will join Megan Fox, MaKayla Ciancanelli, Meaghan Harnish, Caroline Kudela, Sterling Burd, Amy Riordan, and Claire Dafoe for the class of 2022.
