The Utah men’s swimming and diving team welcomes Colorado Mesa to the Ute Natatorium this Friday, Nov. 7, in a dual-meet that will begin at 2 p.m. (MST).
“This Friday is our first and only men’s home meet of the fall, so we are all excited to have the men’s team compete in front of our home fans,” said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. “Colorado Mesa is a great Division II team and we are thrilled that they will come to Salt Lake City to give us a great afternoon of racing.”
The Utes are coming off a huge win over No. 20-ranked Arizona (187.00 – 113.00) and UNLV (192.00 – 112.00) in Las Vegas, Nev., this past weekend. Utah had 10 first-place finishes in the meet, including wins from Bence Kiraly (1,000 free, 500 free), Nick Soedel (50 free, 100 free, 200 free), Kristian Kron (200 back, 200 IM), Ganem Tebet (200 breast), Alex Fernandes (100 fly) and Jacob Crayne (1-meter).
Along with the 10 first-place performances, Utah racked up a total of 25 top-three finishes in the meet as well.
The last time Utah and CMU faced each other, the Utes came away with a 297.00 – 67.00 victory at the Intermountain Shootout held in Grand Junction, Colo., earlier this season. Friday’s meet will serve as the first dual-meet for the Mavericks this season.
Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner is excited about what is in store this Friday, as he noted that junior diver Jacob Crayne will be adding new dives in this meet.
“I am looking forward to Jake getting the opportunity to compete some of the harder dives we’ve been working on in practice,” said Marschner. “He’s going to be throwing an Olympic caliber list in terms of difficulty, so it will be fun to see how he does.”
The Utah women’s swimming and diving teams will take a break from competition this week, but will return to the pool next Friday, Nov. 14, as they welcome No. 4-ranked California to Ute Natatorium.
