POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men’s swimming and diving welcomes eight new members, including seven swimmers and one diver. The 2019-20 incoming additions consist of five freshman and three transfers.
Zachary Arber (NJ): Freestyle – Berkley Aquatics Club – Indiana University
Arber is a transfer sophomore from Indiana University where he did not swim. At Watchung High, he was a four-year varsity letter winner and team captain his senior season. He owns a 50-meter freestyle personal best time of 21.99.
Mason Arnberg (NY): Freestyle/Breaststroke – Hauppauge Swim Club – Half Hollow Hills High School
Arnberg is two-time all-state in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 200-meter medley relay. He is also all-state in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Arnberg is a five-time Suffolk County Champion and represented the United States in Israel in the 2017 Maccabiah Games.
Ante Dany (Germany): Freestyle – DSW 1912 Darmstadt – Lindenwood University
A sophomore transfer from Lindenwood University, Dany was named Freshman of the Year in the Mid-South Conference and was Lindenwood Athlete of the Month in January. He won the 200 freestyle at the NAIA Championships and Mid-South Conference Championships. Dany is majoring in Psychology and enters Marist with a 4.0 GPA after being named Lindenwood Academic Freshman of the Year.
Sean Doran (NJ): Backstroke – Somerset Valley YMCA – Bridgewater-Raritan High School
Doran is a 2018 all-conference, all-division and state champion swimmer in the 100-meter backstroke. He is a four-year varsity swimmer between two different high schools and was a captain his senior year at Bridgewater-Raritan. He was part of the Somerset Valley YMCA teams that won New Jersey State Championships in 2009-2017 and 2019.
Ethan McCormac (NY): Freestyle/IM – East Hampton YMCA – East Hampton High School
McCormac is a five-time YMCA State Champion and a two-year competitor at YMCA Nationals. He is the fastest swimmer in East Hampton High School history, and made the state championships his senior season. He was named the tenth best swimmer at the Federation Championship with a 50-meter freestyle relay time of 21.15, 100-meter freestyle time of 46.23 and 200-meter freestyle time of 1:42.00. He was captain of both his varsity and club team during his time at East Hampton.
Ahmed Sallam (Egypt): Freestyle/Breaststroke/Butterfly – AHLY Swim Club – Arab Academy of Science
Sallam is a member of the Junior Egyption National Team as well as the Al Ahly Sporting Club. He is also a member of the Egyptian National Volleyball team, where he plays outside hitter as well as right side hitter. Regionally, he placed first in the 50-meter backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle, as well as the 100-meter freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly. Nationally, he placed first in the 50-meter backstroke, and managed to place 2nd in six other competitions.
Charles Scheel (PA): Freestyle – Reading High Varsity – Berks Catholic Academy
Scheel is a three-time District 3 Class AAA qualifier. His 200-meter freestyle time of 1:43.52 and 500-meter freestyle time of 4:42.45 are both personal best times that qualified him for the PIAA AAA Boys State Championship. He was named in the Pennsylvania Annual Top-50 Swimmers list in 2019. He was team captain of his varsity team his junior and senior year.
Tyler Wenzel (CT): Diving – Elite Diving – Middletown High School
Wenzel qualified for the Connecticut state competition all four years of high school and was an all-state diver his senior year. He owns the six and 11 dive records at Middletown High and was captain of the swimming and diving team. In addition, Wenzel was a high-honors varsity athlete all four years of high school.
