Stanford junior Lucy Bell won her first NCAA title on the last night of competition in Federal Way, storming her way to a win in the 200 Breast. For Bell, this was a new event this year, as she had focused on the 200 fly in previous seasons. However, Bell has excelled this entire season in the event, coming into the meet as the #1 ranked national swimmer and leaving in the same position.
am super curious to see her swim the 100 br long course as well! she was able to hit a 58 low in scy which is pretty speedy given it was in season and her current weakness with walls.
charlie swanson is someone who comes to mind on the mens side who started out swimming the 400 im as his primary event in college to unlocking and culminating his career with the 100 br as his primary event…

I can’t help but feeling Kim Williams might have had something to do with this.
If memory serves, there was a meet in the fall season that well reflects Lucy’s feeling that she is a bit of a newbie to the 200 Breast.
In early November, ’24, Stanford and Cal came to ASU for a two day tri-meet. Through the meet each event had two heats, with times from the slower seeded heat being able to ‘count.’ in scoring. Timed final sort of thing.
Lucy Bell came into the meet with a PB of 2:13.48 from 2/20/21. Teammates Caroline Bricker and Lucy Thomas were in the faster seeded heat, relegating Bell to the slow heat, rightfully at that point. Bricker had done a PB of 2:06.85 the previous season. Thomas had a PB of 2:09.16… Read more »
