AUBURN, Ala. – The LSU diving team won both events on day one of the Auburn Diving Invitational. Senior Matt McClellan won the men’s one-meter springboard, while Lizzie Cui won the women’s three-meter springboard.

“I’m very proud of Matt and Lizzie for their wins today,” said diving head coach Doug Shaffer. “Matt has struggled with a shoulder injury from the beginning of the year, so this was a great step forward for him. Lizzie was rock solid in both the prelims and the finals. Juan struggled with a few dives, which really took him out of contention. Tomorrow is another day to continue gaining experience which will help us in the championship season.”

McClellan notched his first victory of the season, posting a score of 353.10. That score set a new season-high score on one-meter springboard for McClellan.

After winning the preliminaries, junior Juan Celaya-Hernandez finished fourth overall, scoring 303.20.

Sophomore Dakota Hurbis and senior Matthew Phillip finished in ninth and tenth overall after scoring 289.05 and 260.15, respectively.

Cui won her seventh event of the season in the women’s three-meter springboard, taking the crown after scoring 339.00.

Jolie Blodgett finished ninth overall with a score of 255.35.

The Auburn Diving Invitational continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. as the men will compete on three-meter springboard while the women take on one-meter springboard.
