LSU Men Get Verbal Commitment from NJ State Champ, Brian McGroarty

Brian McGroarty of Linwood, New Jersey has made a verbal commitment to Louisiana State University for 2017-18. After receiving 10 commitments for the women’s team, the LSU Tigers are beginning to put together the men’s class of 2021.

“I felt extremely comfortable with the team and being on campus. Felt like the perfect fit. Looking forward to an awesome 4 years as a tiger.”

McGroarty swims for Egg Harbor Township Seahawks and for the Mainland Regional High School Mustangs. He contributed to the Mustangs’ New Jersey state title last year with a silver medal in the 200 IM, a bronze in the 500 free, and a pair of golds in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. The latter relay broke the state record.

A Junior Nationals qualifier in the 200/400 IMs, he wrapped up short course season with a strong Middle Atlantic Senior Championship Meet in March, earning new PBs in the 200 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 IM. His best times are:

  • 400 IM – 3:58.68
  • 200 IM – 1:51.26
  • 200 free – 1:41.86
  • 500 free – 4:34.20
  • 200 back – 1:52.79
  • 200 breast – 2:40.38
  • 200 fly – 1:52.75

McGroarty comes from a long line of swimmers; his father and four older siblings were all competitive swimmers, although he will be the first Tiger in the family.
