BALTIMORE, Md. – The Eagles finished 2-0 on the women’s side and split 1-1 for the men against Loyola and American University in their first meet of the season.
The women’s team outscored Loyola University 179.50-120.50 and beat American University 206.00-94.00. The men’s side fell to Loyola 143.00-157.00, but put together a dominant performance against American University with a 246.00-52.00 victory.

Baltimore, MD — The Loyola Greyhounds Swimming and Diving teams hosted Boston College and American on Friday night at the Fitness and Aquatic Center. The men’s team defeated Boston College 157.00-143.00 and American 237.50-60.50. The women’s team lost to Boston College 179.50-120.50, and defeated American 173.00-126.00.
Both the men’s and women’s 200 Yard Relay teams won on the night, with the women’s team, compiled of Lily Mead, Avery Stimmel, Laura Latham, and Charley Tulio posting a time of 1:45.12, to narrowly edge out Boston College.
The men’s 200 Yard Relay team, compiled of Teddy Cross, Max Verheyen, Patrick Hayburn, and Caleb Kelly posted a time of 1:31.22, and won by over a second.
The men’s 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Patrick Hayburn, Caleb Kelly, Tyler Knurek, and Henry Mueller came in first with a time of 1:23.35.
Lily Mead added a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke (55.59) and in the 200 Yard IM (2:06.06) on the night. She also added a second place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:01.48), missing out on first place by just 0:00.07.
Patrick Hayburn notched a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 51.21.
Paige Simko finished in first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:05.10.
Max Verheyen had a first place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 57.72, narrowly edging out teammate Michael Gozdan, who had a time of 57.74. Verheyen also finished in first place in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:53.82.
Caleb Kelly earned a first place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 20.60. He also had a first place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 45.41.
Teddy Cross had a first place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:51.98.
Michael Gozdan had a first place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:09.11.
Jack Still clinched a first place finish in the 3 Meter Dive with a score of 297.75.
Matthew Gray had had place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle (9:53.59), while Peter Weinstein had a 4th place finish with a time of 9:54.63.
Michela Schultz had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.45.
Henry Mueller had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:42.53), while Zach Reid had a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:44.19.
Teddy Cross had a 2nd place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke (51.52, while teamate Matt Voight had a 4th place finish with a time of 53.56.
Alana Andress had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly (2.08.00), while Laura Latham had a 3rd place finish with a time of 2:11.35.
Cameron Shinnick had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:53.78, while Harry Hearn had a 3rd place finish with a time of 1:54.09.
Charley Trulio had a 3rd place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.21.
Teddy Cross had a 5th place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.86.
Jack Still had a 4th place finish in the 1 Meter Dive with a score of 263.85.
In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Michela Schultz finished in 2nd (53.40), Fay Moser in 3rd (53.77), and Charley Tulio (53.78).
Henry Mueller had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:52.78.
Paige Simko had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:24.35.
Zach Eisenmann had a 2nd place finish in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:09.99, and teamate Max Verheyen had a time of 2:12.42.
Faith Karr had a 2nd place finish in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:16.75.
Laura Latham had a 3rd place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 57.51, while teammate Michela Schultz tied for 4th with a time of 58.57.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Patrick Hayburn finished in 3rd (50.72), Cameron Shinnick in 4th (51.01), and Harry Hearn in 5th (51.23).
Floyd Conlin finished in 4th place in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:57.72 and Owen laser finished with a time of 1:58.62.
The relay team of Charley Tulio, Avery Stimmel, aFay Moser and Michela Schutz finished in 2nd place in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:37.47.

BALTIMORE – Three wins for junior Mimi Watts along with six other top-three finishes highlighted the first tri-meet of the season for American University men’s and women’s swimming & diving. The Eagles faced tough competition at Patriot League foe Loyola Maryland, also taking on Boston College out of the ACC.
NOTABLE
- Watts, as she usually does, won all three individual events in which she was entered. She posted winning times of 23.34 in the 50 free, 51.50 in the 100 free and 54.87 in the 100 fly.
- Close behind in the 50 free was sophomore Marissa Kleckner who took fourth in 24.46.
- Kleckner also took fourth in the 1000 free in 10:49.80, while fellow sophomore Tyler DiMarco was fifth by a hair, 10:49.82, a PR for her by over 10 seconds.
- Freshman Sophia Hemingway was impressive in her first traditional meet, taking third in the 200 back (2:07.39) and fourth in the 100 back (59.11). Her time in the 200 back is the 16th-fastest PR in program history.
- Junior transfer Maddie Mara and senior Kenzie Cresci finished in a dead tie for third in the 100 breaststroke, both clocking in at 1:06.57. Mara took fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.49, good enough for the 16th-fastest PR in that event at AU.
- Junior Nick Buckley took third place in the 50 free with a time of 21.26, while junior Caleb Farris took third in the 100 free in 47.17.
- Freshman Veronica Lester was fourth in the 200 fly in 2:11.60, and sophomore Mallory Meister was fourth in the 500 free in 5:18.34.
- On the men’s side, sophomore Seamus Brown also took fourth in the 500 free with a time of 4:49.50.
- The women’s 200 medley relay improved on its time from two weeks prior, coming in at 1:46.27 to post the 10th-fastest time in program history.
- Freshman Peyton Thurman was impressive in the diving events, taking third on the 1-meter (234.95) and fourth on the 3-meter (224.55). Her 1-meter score shot her up to eighth-best all-time after she was previously 11th, and her 3-meter score is the ninth-best PR at AU.
- Sophomore Griffin Batt posted a 28.75-point improvement on the 3-meter, taking fifth place with a score of 226.80 that ranks 11th at AU.
- The women fell 173-126 vs. Loyola Maryland and 206-94 against BC.
- The men fell 237.50 to 60.50 vs. Loyola Maryland and 246-52 against BC.
UP NEXT
- The Eagles will head to Georgetown for a dual meet at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. Two weeks later, American will host Howard at home on Oct. 28.
