Loyola Greyhounds Gain Verbals from Alexa Stewart and Emma Schouten

ALEXA STEWART

Alexa Stewart of the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club in Rockville, Maryland, has verbally committed to Loyola-Maryland. She’ll join their class of 2021 after graduation from Rockville High School. Stewart is a four-time Maryland Public 1-3 State Champion, having won the 500 free twice and the 100 fly twice. Specializing in distance free and butterfly, she’s also very strong in the 400 IM.

TOP TIMES

  • 500 free – 5:06.46
  • 1650 free – 17:31.87
  • 200 fly – 2:06.55
  • 400 IM – 4:33.40

Stewart is just off of B-final qualifying times in the 200 fly and 400 IM at last year’s Patriot League Championships. She will get a year of overlap with Maddie Myers, who last year scored in the B final of both the 200 fly and 400 IM at Patriots. Stewart may find a way to score in the mile, as well– she’s about three seconds off of the 16th place time in that event from last season.

EMMA SCHOUTEN

Emma Schouten trains with Five Star Swim Club in Stevens, Pennsylvania. She’s a senior at Warwick High School in Lititz, PA, and will join the Loyola class of 2021 after graduation. Primarily a breaststroker, she has a winter junior nationals cut in the 200 breaststroke. Schouten is also strong in the mid-distance freestyle races.

TOP TIMES

  • 100 breast – 1:04.38
  • 200 breast – 2:19.59
  • 200 free – 1:54.54
  • 500 free – 5:00.39

Recently, Schouten finished 6th in the 500 free and 15th in the 100 breast at last season’s PIAA ‘AAA’ State Championships. She will be of immediate value to the Greyhounds, who will graduate their top breaststrokers after this season. With her best times in the breaststroke events, she’d have finished in the A final of both, including 5th place in the 200 breast. Additionally, she’s very close to scoring in the 500 free.
