The Jersey Wahoos’ Lily Black will be staying in state next season, as she’s just committed to join the Rutgers women next fall. Black will be joining the Scarlett Knights after graduating from Cinnaminson High School at the end of this school year.
I'm so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Rutgers University-New Brunswick!!! I can't wait to be a Scarlet Knight ❤️

Black is primarily a freestyler, but she also extends her schedule to the IM and breaststroke events. Last season, she competed in the 200 free and 500 free at the 2016 New Jersey Public State Team Tournament. There, her highest finish came in the 500 free, where she finished 13th overall. She also swam to a 20th place finish in the 200 free.
Black’s Top Times:
Event | Best Time |
50 free | 24.95 |
100 free | 53.60 |
200 free | 1:55.84 |
500 free | 5:06.38 |
1650 free | 17:44.84 |
100 breast | 1:10.60 |
200 IM | 2:17.39 |
Black will be joining a Rutgers team that went 6-2 in dual meet competition last season. At Rutgers, she’ll team up with freestylers Vera Koprivova, Morgan Perrotti and Thomasin Lee, who all swam the 500 at last season’s Big Ten Championships.
The Scarlet Knights will be graduating Chantal Asselin, their top miler at 2016 Big Tens, at the end of the 2016-17 season. We could see Black as a contributor in the mile to help make up for the loss.
