BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a 156-100 victory over Campbell, Saturday at Johnson Aquatic Center.

Liberty improves to 5-2 on the season, while Campbell falls to 0-3.

Notable

  • For the meet, Liberty won 12 out of 14 races, including both relays. The Camels won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. With the meet decided, Liberty scored the 200 IM and 400 free relay as exhibition events.
  • Aly Bozzuto won both the 50 freestyle and 200 breaststroke, maintaining her perfect record in individual events and relays so far this season.
  • The Lady Flames received individual-event wins from nine different swimmers. Layne Jones (100 backstroke), Emily Harstad (200 fly), Sadie Stricklin (200 backstroke) and Kaycee Cannings (500 freestyle) all picked up their first wins of the season.
  • Twice today, Liberty had back-to-back races won by sisters. Sydney Stricklin won the 100 free before her sister Sadie claimed the 200 backstroke in the very next race. Kaycee (500 free) and Kamryn (100 fly) Cannings posted wins in back-to-back races as well.
  • Liberty posted a 1-2-3-4 showing in the 100 fly (Kamryn CanningsTaylor StasnyLauren WilsonEmily Harstad).
  • Freshman Aly Bozzuto remains unbeaten this season, winning every individual event and relay in which she has competed.
  • Liberty posted a team season best in the 200 breaststroke (Aly Bozzuto – 2:18.40).

Historically Speaking

  • Liberty holds a 24-2 all-time record against Campbell in swimming & diving, with the Lady Flames winning each of the last 24 meetings. Campell is Liberty’s most-frequent opponent in program history.

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell opened up its home slate on Saturday, falling to visiting Liberty 156-1000 at the Johnson Aquatic Center.

The Flames moved to 5-2 on the season, while the Camels dipped to 0-3 in dual matchups.

Nicole Rubino posted a time of 1:54.92 to win the 200 free, while Arabella Butera notched a 1:05.92 in the 100 breaststroke to top another event in favor of the Camels.

Julia Garcia also finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.95, while Katerina Gagnon posted a time of 5:08.57 in the 500 free, also taking runner-up in the event. The Camels closed out the matchup by topping the 200 IM, with Butera claiming a 2:10.88, and the 400 freestyle relay squad adding a time of 3:39.12.

Next up, after a two week break Campbell and Liberty will meet again at the TYR ’85 Invitational at LU, running November 22-24.
