SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Senior Lauren Pavel earned her first Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week honors of the season after her record-setting weekend at the House of Champions Invitational, announced by the League Tuesday, Nov. 22. The award is the fourth of Pavel’s career.

Pavel was perfect through five events – three individual and two relays – setting five new meet records at the meet hosted at the campus of IUPUI. In her efforts, she also set three new career records in every individual event she competed in.

The Omaha, Neb., native kicked off the three-day meet winning the 200-yard individual medley where her time of 2:02.37 bested the meet record by over two seconds. Her golden performance beat her personal record (2:02.84) set back at the 2015 Missouri Valley Championships and now sits first in the conference.

She found the same success in the 100yd breaststroke where she posted a lifetime best, “B” standard time of 1:01.50 in the event. Not only did her performance in the event break the meet record by over two seconds, it claims first-place in the conference and ranks 38th in the nation.

On day three of the meet, Pavel won her third individual victory in the 200yd breast. Her second “B” standard time of 2:13.78 set a new career record that ranks 46th nationally. Her performance in the event crushed the meet record (2:18.28) by just over four seconds and claims the top spot in the MVC.

Pavel was also a part of two meet record-setting relays – the 200 and 400yd medley relays – that took first-place at the meet and set season-record times for the Bears.

The Bears return to the pool Friday, Dec. 2 for a conference matchup against Evansville, beginning at 4 p.m. The following day, the team will travel to Southern Illinois to take on the Salukis at 11 a.m. For more information on the Missouri State swimming and diving team visit www.missouristatebears.com or Twitter (MoStateSwim).
