INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State’s Jack Krusinski and Oakland’s Susan LaGrand each earned this week’s Nike #HLSD Swimmer of the Week honors after strong performances in the pool last weekend. UIC’s Felix LaFortune and Cydney Liebenberg each picked up the Nike #HLSD Diver of the Week honors after extending their consecutive event wins in both their duals last weekend.
2020 Nike® Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Jack Krusinski | Cleveland State | Sophomore | Brecksville, Ohio
Krusinski won seven of the nine races he contested as an individual across three dual meets this past week. He was a perfect 3-for-3 in first-place finishes against Miami (Ohio) Jan. 7 and in a dual at UIC Jan. 10. In his 3-for-3 effort against the Flames, Krusinski won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke by at least two full seconds. Krusinski won the 100 breaststroke for the third straight dual Jan. 11 at UIC. He also swam on winning 400 medley relay teams against both the Red Hawks and Flames.
2020 Nike® Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Susan LaGrand | Oakland | Sophomore | Grand Rapids, Mich.
Susan LaGrand had another strong showing over the weekend, swimming to three of Oakland’s four first place finishes Friday night. LaGrand cruised to the top spot in the 100 butterfly (55.41) and 100 backstroke (55.72). The sophomore also swam to a first place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:44.66. LaGrand continued Saturday’s competition with three more top finishes in the 200 backstroke (2:01.54) and 200 IM (2:04.93) and the 400 medley relay (3:49.11). In total, the Grand Rapids, Mich. native swam to six first place finishes out of seven races.
2020 Nike® Men’s Diver of the Week
Felix LaFortune | UIC | Junior | Gatineau, Canada
LaFortune was the best diver in the pool at UIC’s two dual meets against Cleveland State. He won the 1-meter and 3-meter events in both meets. In only one of the four competitions was his margin of victory less than 25 points. LaFortune set a season high of 308.35 on the 1-meter board Friday, only to surpass it with a score of 315.00 on Saturday. His 3-meter score of 348.95 on Saturday was a season high, and his fourth score above the NCAA Zone standard. Both of his 1-meter scores surpassed the zone cut as well.
2020 Nike® Women’s Diver of the Week
Cydney Liebenberg | UIC | Junior | Pretoria, South Africa
Liebenberg swept the diving events for the third and fourth consecutive meets in UIC’s two-day triple duals against IUPUI and Cleveland State. Three of her four scores were NCAA Zone-qualifying marks. She remained undefeated on the 3-meter board this season. She set a career high on two 1-meter dives and tied her career mark on a third. She debuted a dive on the 3-meter and set a career high on another.
