‘Tis the season for engagements and a big proposal just went down between two of the world’s most dangerous aquatic athletes who span the sprint and distance ends of the swimming spectrum.
Dutch national teamers Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Ferry Weertman have long been a couple, but the pair made their official wedding engagement known via Instagram today, December 29th.
“Totally in the clouds, up there on the mountain #YES #YES” is how Kromo described the special moment between the 29-year-old and her 27-year-old husband-to-be.
The pair, who have been together for almost 5 years, is vacationing in the mountains in southern Germany. However, it’s business before pleasure, as Kromo tells SwimSwam that there will be ‘no wedding before Tokyo.’
Kromo was the double sprint freestyle champion at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, topping the podium in both the 50m and 100m events. She most recently raced at the Dutch Short Course Championships where she notched a 2020 Olympic Games qualifying time in the 50m free.
As for Weertman, the Naarden native took 10k open water gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and immediately followed that up with another gold in the same event at the 2017 World Championships. He reaped gold at the 2018 European Championships in both the 10k and team open water and is slated to represent the Netherlands once again next year in Tokyo.
Wonderful pictures, they both look very radiant & happy. Best to them always.
50 free champ plus 10k champ equals their first child being 1:41.XX 200 free if male or 2:00.XX 200 Fly if Female??? Seriously tho, those records could be a generation away, it might take these super couples
Or maybe s/he’ll become an e-gamer. Or maybe they won’t have any kids at all. let’s all calm down..
Congratulations to them though. They look very, very happy!
No pressure on their kids to swim fast 😁.
But seriously , very happy for them 🥳
