Katie Ledecky Swims World Leading 400 Freestyle At TWST Senior Invite

Last night, Katie Ledecky broke the world record in the 1500 meter freestyle at the TWST Senior Invite, posting a 15:34.23. You can view her final lengths of that swim here.

Tonight she is at it again, chasing down records and personal best times. Although she did not break any World or US Open records, she did swim the fastest 400 in the world this year, touching the wall with a winning time of 4:03.09.

Any guesses as to why Katie chose to swim at Woodlands instead of Santa Clara? The meet at Santa Clara looks so fun, with all the people she knows and a more competitive atmosphere. Instead, she’s virtually racing the Santa Clara folks from far away. It would have been fun to see her head-to-head.

And I don’t understand why at a meet in which a legend like Katie swims, nobody in the stands films her races entirely. I don’t know. We are in 2014! It’s not so hard to have a little camera. However thanks for the effort from Daniel Gately for the last meters of Katie’s 1500 free WR in video. But it’s a little frustrating. Hopefully someone is ready to film her 800 free race. It could be very fast.

Can we find the results of that meet somewhere?

Because someone enough crazy expected a 400 free world record this week?

There’s no doubt Katie can break it this year, next year or in 2 years but it will not be easy.
It’s so hard to break that suited world record.
It would be one the greatest swimming accomplishments in history.
She swam an amazing race last year in Barcelona in 3.59.82, the most amazing performance of her week in my opinion. Swimming under 4 minutes in textile is absolutely brilliant.
The world record made in magical suits by Federica Pellegrini is 3.59.15.
So 0.68 s to drop.
I’m not a specialist like many… Read more »

My bad. 😳
I’ve made a little mistake.
At Pan Pacs the women’s 400 free is scheduled on day 3 but 2 days after the 800 free.
On day 2 she will have “only” the 4X200 free relay.
Pan Pacs schedule
http://www.swimming.org.au/article.php?group_id=36093
So if I recap, her schedule could be as follows:
-day 1. 800 free
-day 2. 4X200 free relay
-day 3. 400 free
-day 4. 1500 free
So it’s not as bad as I expected but it’s still not at all a perfect schedule to swim fresh a 400 free and break the world record.
But Katie isn’t a normal swimmer. 🙂

Yeah, looks like she swam 200 IM also (2:16) and the 4×200 freestyle relay split of 1:58.99.

That’s insane considering she just broke the WR and didn’t she swim a 200 IM as well?
