The Wisconsin Badgers have picked up a verbal from junior nats qualifier Avalon Schultz, a breaststroker from the Santa Clara Swim Club. Schultz will join the Badger women next fall after she graduates from Cupertino High School.
On her commitment:
“I chose Wisconsin because it provides me with the opportunity to swim for four more years for another amazing team, as well as get a good education in a beautiful city.”
This summer, Schultz made her first long course junior nationals cut in the 100 meter breast. She hit the mark at the 2016 Futures Championships, where she clocked a personal best 1:11.96 to earn a 2nd place finish. She also broke 2:40 in the 200 meter breast for the first time this summer, setting her new best time at 2:39.41.
Schultz’s Top Times:
Event | Best time |
100 breast | 1:03.36 |
200 breast | 2:17.69 |
100 fly | 56.88 |
200 IM | 2:03.67 |
400 IM | 4:25.16 |
In yards, Schultz’s best time in the 100 breast is a 1:03.36, which would’ve put her within tenths of scoring range at the 2016 Big Ten Championships. That along with her 2:17.69 in the 200 breast give her the potential to be a conference scorer for the Badgers as a freshman.
Santa Clara to Madison… mustn’t be a fan of good weather
