There was a lot of young talent at the Olympic trials in June, and many of those youths performed stupendously, even if that didn’t mean making the team, or should I say Olympic team. With Jr Pan Pacific Championships coming up this week, the trials served as a selection meet for the Jr team as well as the Olympic team.
One of those youths was Cody Bybee, a 16 year old out of Dayton, Ohio who happened to go a best time at Olympic trials. That best time, a 53.8 in the 100 fly, was good enough to put him on the Jr team for Maui. As Cody explains in the video, after trials he got right back to work in the pool, and ended up shaving and resting a bit for Jr nationals in Minneapolis.
At juniors, Cody not only placed top 3 in 3 individual events, but also swam in 3 relays that went top 3, leading to a 1st place overall finish at the meet for the Dayton boys. Cody will be one to keep an eye out for, as he may still have some tricks up his sleeve for Maui.
