10-year old East Coast Aquatic Club swimmer Joshua Zuchowski has broken the 10 & under National Age Group Record in the boys’ 100 meter backstroke, swimming a 1:09.07 on Saturday at the Daytona Beach Swimming Spring Open on Saturday, his coach John Kjaerulff reports.
That swim breaks the all-time record in the United States for the age group that had been a 1:09.89 done by Destin Lasco in 2012. Lasco continued on to break more records as an 11-12, and while he hasn’t raced long course yet since aging up, is the fastest-ranked 13-year old 100-yard backstroker in the country this season.
Juchowski, a home-schooled fifth-grader, is partially coached by his father Jonathan Zuchowski in addition to Kjaerulff. He is just the second swimmer (behind Clara Smiddy) from the Florida Gold Coast LSC to currently hold a National Age Group Record individually.
Wow, that is an awesome accomplishment! Keep up the hard work Josh, and it will keep paying off in your future!
Way to go Josh!!!! So proud!!!
This record stood for less than an hour or two… Ronald Dalmacio popped a 1:08.13…
The future of US Swimming looks bright! Congrat’s, Joshua! 🙂
Congrats
Yeesh. So much for these records holding up. We thought Murphys would. Then we thought Andrews would. The Lasco and Marciano. now these kids are tearing through left and right.
