Josh Prenot Named Pac-12 Men’s Swimmer of the Month

Cal junior Josh Prenot has been voted as the Pac-12 Men’s Swimmer of the Month for January 2015 after 5 wins in 5 different events across three meets in a tough back-to-back run against Arizona and Arizona State on the road.

Prenot won the 100 breast (55.32) and the 200 back (1:46.59) at Arizona State on Jan. 23, then followed with victories in the 200 fly (1:47.65), the 200 breast (1:56.69) and the 400 IM (3:50.53) at Arizona on Jan. 24.

This is the the first time that Prenot has won this award in his career, and highlights not just a successful month, but a versatile month that shows off how truly good he is. He won a race in four of the five disciplines (freestyle being the exception) and over 100, 200, and 400 yard distances.

Prenot was 3rd in the 400 IM at NCAA’s, and while two-time defending champion Chase Kalisz is well ahead of where anyone has ever been in the 400 yard IM, but Prenot is one of the few swimmers in the country who has the tools to challenge Kalisz in the grueling event.

The Diver of the Month award went to Arizona State’s David Hoffer, who won three events in three meets in January. That included a sweep of the springboards against Cal.

Also Nominated

Swimmer: David Nolan, STAN; Kristian Kron, UTAH.
Diver: Kristian Ipsen, STAN; Collin Pollard, USC; Jacob Crayne, UTAH.
