Masters Assistant Coach and Director of Operations

Under the direction of the Masters Head Coach, the Director of Operations and Masters Assistant Coach is responsible for the organization, management, overseeing club-related daily operations and administrative duties, and providing high quality coaching.

The Masters program has approximately 250 swimmers with four (4) main workouts daily Monday through Friday (5:30 a.m., 6:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.) for one hour per workout. Saturdays from 5:30 to 6:30am Distance Training group and 6:30-7:30 a.m. a Technique group.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance and information for all new athletes and to the program regarding team tryouts, practice schedules, and registration set-up with the RBAC;
  • Coach adult swimmers with a competitive background ages 18 and older;
  • Assist the Head Coach in coaching and coordinating structured workouts for the team;
  • Promote and expand the team membership through team building and a positive attitude;
  • Attend and assist at all scheduled Masters Swim Team competitions, events and activities;
  • Attend all team meetings and coach’s meetings;
  • Teach, instruct, and correct swimmers at every opportunity;
  • Actively promote open water, pool, and triathlon competitions;
  • Assist the Head Coach with overseeing and managing registration fees for all athletes and programs;
  • Provide ongoing communication to athletes, as appropriate, regarding updates in practice and competition schedules; 
  • Other duties and coaching responsibilities as needed; and
  • All RBAC employees are encouraged to participate in programs to act as evaluators and provide valuable feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age as required by the US Masters Swimming;
  • Experience or background in competitive coaching and swimming;
  • Knowledge and use of Social Media to help communicate with the swimmers;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and 
  • Current First Aid and CPR or Coaches Safety Training


Working Conditions: 

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may require potentially inclement weather conditions. Position requires regular contact with the public. Must be able to demonstrate thoughtful planning and attention to detail, effective communication, ability to work under pressure and collaborate with others, exercise sound judgment, and adhere to deadlines. Some travel is required, such as travel to meets locally, nationally, and internationally. Coaches will be in constant contact with adults, giving instruction, feedback, and corrections. The speaking level or volume must be heard by individuals as well as the whole group because of the size of the pool and amount of people in the workouts. 


Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and additional software applications
  • Must be available to work onsite during office hours 
  • Must be available to coach mornings during the week in addition to attending weekend competitions 


FLSA Status:
This classification is non-exempt from FLSA requirements.

Work Schedule:
Hours: Full-time (30-40 hours per week). Swim competitions hours will vary with the swim meets offered.

Swim Practice (20-30 hours/week) – Minimum Required Schedule:
Monday – Friday (5:45am-8:15am) – 2.5 hours/day
Monday – Friday (11:45am-1:15pm) – 1.5 hours/day
Saturday (5:15am – 7:45am) –  2.5 hours/day

Office Hours (6-10 hours/week) – Minimum Required Schedule:
Monday (8:30am-11:30am) – 3 hours/week *flexible days and hours
Wednesday (8:30am-11:30am) – 3 hours/week *flexible hours
Coaches Meetings biweekly – 1.5 hour
Staff Meeting – 1 hour (monthly meeting)

Swim Meets – On Weekends (vary based upon meet schedule)
Monthly 1-2x month – 8-10 hours

Anticipated Annual Pay Range:
$25 to $35 per hour
