This position will instruct the men’s and women’s swimming and diving team and will be responsible for the administrative functions required for the team’s success. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the overall maintenance and operations of the aquatics facility throughout the year.

 

The Head Coach will oversee the comprehensive management of the swimming and diving program, encompassing recruitment strategies, scheduling of competitions, and overall meet logistics. This role requires the organization of volunteer support and active engagement in fundraising initiatives. Technical instruction aimed at athlete development is paramount, with an approach to designing tailored strength and conditioning programs. Furthermore, the Head Coach will set academic objectives for the team, implement required study table protocols, and closely monitor the academic performance of athletes to ensure compliance with eligibility standards.

 

The Aquatics Director manages the operational aspects of the facility, including budget oversight, safety protocols, and the recruitment and supervision of lifeguards. Responsibilities also entail optimizing the facility’s master schedule and executing pool maintenance, which includes monitoring chemical levels and identifying maintenance needs. Maintaining accurate records for water chemistry and facility upkeep is crucial for ensuring regulatory compliance and safety.

 

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, health, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with prior competitive swim and/or diving coaching experience, particularly at the collegiate level. Applicants must possess current CPR/First Aid certification, be a certified Lifeguard and/or a certified Lifeguard Instructor, and become a Certified Pool Operator within the first three months of employment. Although a current swim instructor certificate is preferred, it is not mandatory. Successful experience in recruiting is essential, and the selected candidate must complete the NAIA Champions of Character coaches course within the first two weeks of employment. Additionally, the ability to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings, is required, along with a willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.

The Piedmont Swim Team is looking for an energetic team player who loves to coach youth athletes and is motivated to help advance our swimmers and program to the next level. This position reports to the Head Coach of Piedmont Swim Team who is responsible for the daily operations of the Club.

Employment Status: 

Part-time: Work hours vary between the hours of 5:30-7:30 a.m. (1-2 days per week) and 3:30-7:15 p.m. on weekdays, plus 8:15 a.m. -12:15 p.m. on Saturday and 7:45-11:15 a.m. on Sunday, and generally monthly weekend swim meets on both Saturday and Sunday.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Head Coach and the entire PST coaching staff in implementing a comprehensive competitive program for our athletes
  • Conduct about 12 hours per week of on-deck coaching
  • Incorporate goal setting into practice sessions at both the group and individual swimmer levels
  • Support swimmers, parents and coaches at swim meets as needed

Administrative (Approx. 25 hours/week) 

Manage a high volume of calls and emails, clearly and professionally communicating with families regarding all Swim Academy programs. 

Partner with the Registration department to ensure accurate enrollments, manage waitlists, and assist with transfers and cancellations using internal software. 

Serve as Swim Academy social media liaison with Marketing department. 

Conduct new client evaluations and orientations to support a smooth program onboarding experience. 

Organize and distribute participant data. 

Collect and manage instructor availability each semester; relay relevant feedback to the leadership team. 

Maintain a competitive analysis of swim programming and staffing trends across the region. 

Assist in planning and executing annual and monthly in-service training for Swim Academy frontline staff. 

Optional – one Sunday a month to assist with in-service training sessions.   

Provide on-deck support and class coverage when necessary to ensure uninterrupted Swim Academy operations. 

Coaching (Approx. 10 hours/week) 

Assist with AGUA Swim League practices and provide support to instructors as needed. 

Serve as an assistant coach for Age Groups 1, 2 (10 and under). 

Collaborate with AGUA Swim Team coaching staff in alignment with the team’s established training curriculum.

Summary

 

Serving as the chief officer for the aquatics area, providing leadership in aquatics management and programming in the Student Recreation Center. Primary aquatics responsibilities include operation, collaboration with aquatics facility stakeholders, staffing, programming, event management, singular oversight of aquatics treatment plant, water chemistry, and upkeep as pool operator. Serve as the Risk Management Officer for the Offices of Health & Wellness and Recreation, oversee Health and Safety programming for both professional and student staffs in the offices of Health & Wellness and Recreation, and the community. Review, monitor, and maintain risk management procedures for the department. The Assistant Director coordinates both short and long-term planning for maintenance and enhancements, operating budgets, and youth programming within the aquatic facilities. This role is responsible for generating approximately $200,000 in operating revenue annually.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Oversee aquatic operations within the Student Recreation Center including risk management, policy development/enforcement, scheduling, mechanical function, event planning, required inspections, and daily maintenance/upkeep.
  • Supervise approximately 60 student employees and oversee hiring, training, evaluations, and discipline processes. Assist employees with issues related to aquatic operations, water chemistry, patrons, and other operational programs such as in-service trainings and accidents/incidents.
  • Coordinate planning and scheduling of preventative maintenance, custodial operations, maintenance and repairs, and improvements (to include capital enhancement projects) specific to the aquatic facilities within the Student Recreation Center.
  • Serve as the system administrator for software related to operating an aquatic facility or event (Colorado Timing System-DisplayLink, Hy-Tek, scoreboard, etc.). Coordinate all software implementations, updates/enhancements, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Directly responsible for the short and long-term planning of all risk management practices within the Offices of Health & Wellness and Recreation for approximately 250 student employees. Oversee all health and safety certification offerings (CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, Lifeguarding Instructor, CPR/AED Instructor) for members of our offices, campus, and the general community.
  • Responsible for generating approximately $200,000 in operational revenue annually.
  • Coordinate all planning, implementation, and evaluation of learn-to-swim and other youth programming specific to the aquatic area. Assist in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of additional youth programming (summer and spring break camps).
  • Responsible for aquatic operation and youth programming budgets and assist in short and long-term fiscal planning.
  • Oversee aquatic events to serve campus (i.e. BGSU Athletics Swim & Dive) and community (youth, high school, and USA Swimming) to aid in overall recruitment and retention.
